Background:Dash found himself at our shelter on April 11, 2024, after being surrendered by his owners of five years. He previously lived with two adults and two children.Behavior Assessment:During his assessment on April 13, 2024, Dash exhibited various behaviors. He showed no strength or pulling while on leash and displayed no reactivity to humans. However, he became stiff when encountering unfamiliar dogs while on walks.Interactions:Dash is a highly social dog who enjoys human interaction. He readily approaches for attention and leans in for affection. He seeks contact during soft handling and accepts contact during exuberant handling, although he may take some time to settle down. Dash also enjoys playing with toys, gripping and holding them.Energy Level and Recommendations:Described as having a medium energy level by his previous owners, Dash will benefit from daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and happy. Long walks and interactive toys can help alleviate any anxiety he may experience.Behavior Determination:Dash has been assessed as a Level 2 dog with no specific restrictions. However, due to his tendency to bark and growl at unfamiliar dogs, it's recommended to avoid trips to the dog park to prevent any potential conflicts.Potential Challenges:Dash may experience anxiety, especially in new environments or when encountering unfamiliar dogs. Positive reinforcement training and interactive activities can help him overcome these challenges. Additionally, his on-leash reactivity may require patience and consistent training to redirect his focus.Despite his anxieties, Dash is a friendly and playful companion who is ready to find his forever home. With understanding and support, he will surely thrive and bring joy to his new family. My BoroughBreak Buddy Writes: Dash was so happy to spend the day with us. As the day progressed, he became more and more comfortable with us. We had a picnic in the park and Dash kept putting his head in our lap or laying on his back and demanding belly rubs. He was a little reactive with other dogs, he barked a couple of times and whimpered at other dogs, but in a non threatening way. When another dog passed by, he would either pause or pull forward, but usually his tail was wagging and he just seemed intrigued. He did not react at all to loud noises (baby crying, traffic/car horns, music, etc) and was friendly with all people who approached him. Overall, he was a very happy dog and was so excited to hang out with us for the day. Primary Color: Brown Secondary Color: White Weight: 56 Age: 5yrs 1mths 0wks
