Juju FKA Julz Julz came to ACCT as a stray when he was found wandering the streets. His finders described him as "very sweet," and said his tail was wagging the whole time he was in their lap. Unfortunately Julz is having a difficult time staying optimistic here, and has been noted to be jumpy, and a little snatchy with treats. Julz has also displayed some behaviors indicative of a high prey drive--at least with squirrels, so we recommend that Julz's future home be one without cats or small animals. Julz has been playful with other dogs; while walking through the kennels, he is excited and play-bowing, we think with the right canine companion, Julz would really enjoy playtime. Behavior notes: 6/16 per volunteer: I had the opportunity to take Julz out Sunday afternoon. Julz displayed a very gentle and calm demeanor during our walk. He pulled a little at times but mostly stayed near me as we walked. He loves to show off his ability to offer his paw for a treat. He'd sit on command and then automatically lift his right or left paw after a few seconds. Julz would also wave one of his paws for a treat. He is a very friendly and affectionate boy. Whenever I stopped walking, he'd lean his body into me for pets. When kneeled on the ground, he'd either roll in the grass for belly rubs or he would back his butt up to me and sit on my thigh, waiting for me to scratch his back. Each time I showed him a treat, he'd exhibit good manners and take them gently. Julz is a very sweet boy and I had no issue returning him to his kennel. 6/16 Julz came out for activity time today. When I arrived at Julz' kennel, he was giving me soft eyes and full body wags and he waited by the door for me to leash him. He draggggeedd me down the kennel into the eval room and darted straight for a ball. Julz let me take the ball from him and continued to bring it back for me. We played for awhile and he eventually wanted to run around by himself and do parkour on the benches, walls and even off of me. He is very gentle despite the amount of energy he is and knows how to calm down. Julz is a firecracker and knows how to keep your energy up. He is snatchy with treats but makes up for it with his tricks (sit and speak). 5/24 Met dog while waiting for dog intake, was super sweet and wiggly. 5/25 When the handler arrived to Julz kennel he was very excited to be leashed, wiggling and dart back and forth in kennel. He had soft eyes and a mid level wagging tail. His darting made him a little difficult to leash but when he was leashed he came right out. 5/25 Once Julz was leashed he tried to interact with dogs in the kennels around him, play bowing and whining for their attention. He needs to be nudged a little to be redirected. 5/25 Once in the Eval room Julz ran around the room sniffing for treats and followed the handler around. He allowed all touch and rubbed his entire body on his handler. He is very high energy and can get distracted by everything resulting in zoomies. Julz will give you a very sweet sit and paw for high value treats. Loved squeaky toys and made himself very known. Julz loves to run and has zoomies with toys in his mouth. Accepts meaty treats for trades but is very snatchy. 5/27 This large dope is looking for a home where he can run into everything, knock things over, including your small child, then thank you with large bear hugs. He knows sit and paw but be careful, his paws are huge and his legs are long so it's more like being swatted at when he gives you paw. He's playful with toys and shares his slobber with them. He's easy walking on leash despite his size but I can not say he won't go all Scooby Doo when he sees a friend or a squirrel approaching. 5/30 Julz did well for his dog meet but did display some fixation and prey drive tendencies at times.
