Booker T is a 4 year old male dog who came to ACCT Philly on 3/11 when he was found trying to teach a class of his own in the parking lot of a nearby elementary school. It was also noted that he was limping and possibly injured. When he first arrived at the shelter he was noted to be very nervous, but friendly. He was treated with medication for his shelter stress. This otherwise happy and friendly dog urgently needs someone to notice him and take him into their home! Read what ACCT friends have to say about Booker T: 3/29 On Volunteer let us know that Booker T and Blue Lagoon got into an altercation. After speaking with Volunteer they explained that they were outside doing a meet and the meet went well but at one point the leashes got tangled and Booker T bit onto blue lagoon's ear but blue Lagoon did not fight back. They were able to separate and return both dogs to the kennel with no further issues. Blue Lagoon injury is minimal, just a small puncture on his ear. Booker T allowed us to check his body for any wounds but since Blue lagoon didn't fight back there does not appear to be any injuries to him just has blood on him from Blue. 3/18 Volunteer noted Booker was ready to come out of his kennel, and he even was a helper dog to another scared dog, Laura, to entice her to come out of her kennel. In the yard, when he got over-excited he did some mild humping but was easy to redirect. He walks better in a harness since he has a tendency to pull. The notes on his walk sheet state he is barky through the fence toward other dogs, but we think he is just frustrated bc he had 2 good meets - Pinky and Laura. He seems to be trying to stay house-trained. No issue returning him to his kennel. 3/15 Booker got out for some activity time today. He was laying on the opposite side of the kennel, but came up with a low wagging tail and soft eyes when he saw me at the door. He was patient with leashing and hopped out once secured. He pulled strongly but was still manageable. When we got to the room he sniffed around for a couple minutes before laying right next to my feet. I reached down to pet him and he lit up! He pushed his body against me and rolled his head back, tongue lolling out the side. He did almost like a whale flop back onto me, so I got down on the floor with him and he climbed into my lap. He rubbed himself back and forth against me, smashing his face into my chest and lap and soaking up all over pets and love. He gave a couple alert barks when someone came into the room, but did not react further. We continued our cuddling, but after a while Booker got a little too excited! He started jumping up on me and wrapping his arms around me very tightly, like he was going to mount. He didn't hump or fully mount, but was persistent about jumping up and wrapping himself around me. I was able to get him off and he displacement sniffed around the room before coming back and laying by my feet again. He took a treat from me so so gently but did not actually eat it. Someone else came into the room and Booker alert barked again, this time a little harder. He pulled toward them but stopped once he felt leash pressure. He seems wary of strangers but is so loyal once you've won him over. When returning to kennel he wanted me to go into the kennel with him! He gave me no issues trying to escape behind me. 3/12 Booker was nervous in kennel when the handler approached. He was standing on the backside of the kennel and came to the front with soft eyes low body, low tail, lip licking. He sniffed the leash through the door and then slowly let the handler leash him ears to snout and exited calmly. Once in the room Booker stood at the middle of the room and was pretty shutdown. He was glancing around at his surroundings, but would not move. The handler grabbed the leash and had him come over beside her. He followed her and sat upright in front of her with soft eyes, but nervous body language still. He remained very shutdown and nervous, but had soft eye contact when interacting with us. He did show interest in fresh pet when it was offered to him and ate it off the floor. He would also take it from the handler gently. He allowed the handler to lightly pet his back and head without any issues. He did not lean in and remained a bit nervous, but was very tolerant. He is very treat motivated and they helped him to warm up a lot when interacting with him. As time went on he became more and more affectionate. He climbed into his handlers lap and began to seek out pets and lean in roll over for pets. When Medical Staff evaluated Booker T it was noted that he was very stressed in shelter and he was prescribed clonidine. They also noted some hair loss. He was noted to be otherwise apparently healthy with no obvious signs of illness or injury. On 3/18 Medical staff noted that Booker T had contracted an upper respiratory infection and he was treated with doxycycline.
