My story

Zayden ACCT-A-179098 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Zayden must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER, or RESCUE PARTNER by Saturday, November 16th at 10 A.M. Should Zayden's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging an animal. Zayden came to ACCT as a stray, and his finder described him as "hyperactive, and playful." While he was initially very fearful of this strange, new environment, we've found that he loves being outdoors, and running around. Per volunteer 11/15: Timestamped Zayden is all about fun. He's the epitome of a happy dog, loving life no matter where he is. He knows sit, is trying to stay housetrained, and his go-to move is tossing his head and doing his play bow - he'll do it when you're least expecting it - it's so cute, you can't help but love him. He is estimated to be 4 yrs old, but still has some young energy of jumping, so he'll need some guidance to curb that behavior. He's on meds for a canine cold, but I didn't see any symptoms, so he's probably close to completing his treatment. Zayden is on the high end of the energy level and can entertain himself in the yard by playing with almost any toy - he's not too fussy. He likes to take full advantage of his yard playtime, so didn't have much interest in snuggling with me. Zayden is dog social having both a good leash meet and drop leash meet in the shelter; both are on his bio. When we were outside there was a dog in the adjoining yard and though he was interested, he was not vocal. If you are looking for a happy, energetic, spitfire pup, please head to 111 W Hunting Park Ave to meet our fun boy, you won't be disappointed. 10/25 Behavior evaluation notes: KNOWN HISTORY: Stray KENNEL PRESENTATION: Zayden was on the front half of his kennel when I approached. The ACA cleaning his row mentioned that Zayden refused to walk to the other side of his kennel. He greeted me with wide, bulging eyes and stress pants. He was a little nervous of the leash going over his head, but allowed me to leash him pretty easily. Once secured he was so scared to come out, and stood at the edge of his kennel trembling. He allowed me to give him some comforting pets, but still took several minutes to get the courage to step out. LEASH SKILLS: Zayden was terrified in the kennels and would not walk very well. He pancaked a lot and would army crawl towards me with lots of encouragement. The ACA that checked him in let me know that he pancakes a lot and has a lot of trouble going through doorways, but allows himself to be picked up and carry him. We went into a quiet hallway to see if he would walk, but Zayden just wanted to say hi to everyone that passed by! He greeted everyone with excited zooms and fast wags. He allowed all handling from strangers and was just happy to be getting attention. HANDLING: Once in the yard Zayden was stressed and tired from his adventure through the kennels and having to walk through so many doors. He laid out in front of me, putting as much belly to the ground as he could, and panted heavily. When I called him he crawled into my lap with soft eyes and leaned in for pets. He's very excitable, and got a little aroused and mouthed a bit, but wasn't rough. Zayden was a little sensitive to handling, and did not like his butt or his paws touched. He would zoom away and whip his body around whenever I tried to give him booty scratches, and would pull away and mouth at my hands when I tried to handle his feet. He was pretty hyperactive, so he likely didn't want me touching his feet since he wanted to run. When I wasn't paying attention to him he would lay calmly at my feet, but as soon as I gave him attention or moved around he was zooming around the yard. He took treats gently and showed me he knows "sit". Zayden was scared of toys, and cowered behind me when I squeaked a toy for him. Overall, Zayden is VERY anxious and fearful, and will need someone who understands him and can help him regulate himself. PLAY No interest, fearful TOYS: No interest, fearful Zayden has had some time to adjust, and he's gotten so much braver when walking through the kennels! 10/27 He was very loose and wagging his tail when I approached his kennel. He tried to dodge the leash a few times, but then allowed me to leash him and hopped right out. There's a sign on his kennel that says he's afraid to walk through doors, but we didn't have any issues walking out! He was excited and didn't hesitate at them for me at all. Very energetic and playful and So freaking sweet! He loves romping around and doing zoomies. When you tell him to sit he will try to do it for a second but he can't even hold it until the treat comes because he's so darn excited! Silly goofy boy, no issues going back inside. Per volunteer 10/31: Zayden is doing great! He had zero issues pancaking or going through doors. He was chill in his kennel but happy to go outside. Outside he zoomed around then lay down then popped over for kisses and pets. He's really affectionate! Zayden likes to walk and run and explore. He's a great dog! We would really like to see Zayden leave with someone who shares his love of the outdoors, and can provide him with exercise, decompression, and give him the courage to walk through any doorway.
