Do you know what hits the spot after a long day? A glass of BRANDEE!! Meet Brandee! This gorgeous brindle CAT-FRIENDLY girl joined us at the shelter in May after being found as a stray. She is currently relaxing and letting her true personality shine in her foster home. A few things to know about Brandee: she is housebroken, knows "sit" and adores cuddling with her human friends. Her biggest dream is to be a lap dog and we tell Brandee to believe in her dreams! So she'll try to climb into your lap any time you sit still for some snuggle time. She also loves to curl up in the tiny cat bed like the small baby she is. Brandee rarely barks and is unaware of her size, which adds to her charm. Brandee is thriving with her training and gaining confidence daily. She absolutely loves her crate, often retreating there for a bit of peace and quiet. Plus, she's fantastic with cats! She has multiple cat siblings who showed they were scared of her at first, so Brandee worked hard to make herself seem as small and wiggly as possible so they could work to become friends! Brandee has shown she's not the biggest fan of dog pals and would love to be the one and only dog in the house. If you're looking for a devoted companion who's ready to bring warmth and cuddles into your life, Brandee is your girl! Brandee is currently in foster care with ACCT Philly, you can follow her adventures on Instagram at @adopt_brandee or email foster@acctphilly.org to learn more. She's learning so many new things, including how to play. She's become more confident and trusting every day, and is the gentlest girl. She spends 90% of her day cuddling or sleeping, and the other 10% trying to gain the trust of our cats. Brandee loves hotdogs, cheese, her squeaky toy, her stuffed dinosaur, blankets, and her crate. She can be left alone for 8+ hours each day while we work, and we've had zero complaints from neighbors about noise when we are gone. Sidewalk etiquette is improving quickly, and she recently discovered a love of sticks. She would make a great hiking or camping buddy, but is also down for cozy nights in and lazy afternoons. Anyone would be lucky to have this sweet girl join their family! 9/4/24 foster notes: She is gaining a lot of confidence and skills through the training we've been doing, but is still not at a point where she could live with another dog. She is still lunging, barking, and snapping at them when they get too close. Her separation anxiety has improved a ton with the medication and confidence building. She also LOVES her crate. She often chooses to go into it just to have some quiet alone time. Also wanted to make sure that her profile gets changed on the website to reflect that she lives with cats! She does great with them, and even tries to make herself seem small and non-threatening when they are scared by dropping to the ground and wiggling. 7/29/24 foster notes: We also wanted to say that she is still pretty dog reactive but has been great with our 2 cats. She does like to know where they are most of the time, but generally ignores them otherwise. 6/25/24 Foster notes: She has started relaxing and showing her playful side, and loves going on walks. Her biggest dream is to be a lap dog, so she will try to climb in your lap any time you are sitting still for some cuddles. She prefers her soft purple octopus toy to the other stronger ones we've given her, and isn't very interested in playing rougher games like fetch or tug. She has shown interest in our cats but hasn't shown any aggression towards them. She rarely barks and is often unaware of her size. We are excited to see her open up even more in the coming weeks! 6/11/24 per volunteer: Today I fell in love with the most loving girl named Brandee Brandee is so sweet and she is happy to be right by your side and put her paw gently on your hand. She is a beautiful brindle young lady and is so affectionate and calm. She fell asleep by my feet as we were sitting and relaxing outside. Brandee is such a good girl and she is housebroken and walks great on her leash. Brandee would be a great girl for anyone looking for a new best friend. 5/28/24 Per staff: Took Brandee out with a volunteer group. Brandee was lying down on her kennel bed and came to the front with mid level wags and soft eyes. She did some leash dodging but was relatively easy to leash still. Brandee walks GREAT on leash no pulling at all. In a play yard she was social with all handlers, resting her head in our laps with full wiggles and leaning in for pets. She enjoyed exploring around and used the bathroom a ton while outside too! Another dog came to the fence of the play yard and she paid them no attention whatsoever. She was a bit nervous walking back through the kennels, doesn't enjoy all the barking, but went back into kennel without issue. 5/28/24 Per staff: Brandee came out for activity time today. In kennel, Brandee was laying down on her bed growling at the handler but once she was shown the leash she began wagging her tail and jumping on the kennel door. She was easy to leash and walked great with very minimal to no pulling. In passing the dogs in the kennels, Brandee had her tail tucked and head lowered. Once in the eval room, Brandee jumped right on top of the handler, giving big hugs and slobbery kisses. While being pet she does give submissive smiles and little rumbles. She loves to play with the handler more than toys and wiggles her entire body. Brandee was not too interested in treats and really wanted to run around and play. She knows when she is returning to her kennel and begins whining with sad eyes. Brandee is overall a giant baby and loves to be held. Watch out for this big girl, she might knock you down for some more kisses. 5/25/24 Per staff: Kennel presentation - easy to leash. Brandee was nervous but very easy to leash. She was laying on her bed, and looked up with big soft eyes when she heard me approach. She started wagging her tail and then stood up and came to the door with ears back and eyes still big and soft. She was a little nervous of the leash but allowed me to reach over her and leash her. She came right out once secured. Pulls minimally on leash. Handleability/sociability - neutral, allows all handling. Brandee was nervous and submissive but very sweet when we first entered. She kept her tail tucked, ears back, eyes soft, and body low. I offered her some treats but she didn't take them at first. She did accept some pets and then hopped halfway into my lap and sniff my face and lean in for some more pets. I could feel her trembling on my lap. Eventually the other handler offered her some turkey which she loved and took so so gently. She then started taking treats as well and showed us her beautiful "sit". She was still quite submissive and would flinch if we touched her too suddenly or without warning. She allowed all handling and was just submissive and nervous throughout. Overall she's very sweet and friendly, just nervous and submissive. Play- no interest. Toys - interest but does not take possession. Color level gold. Very sweet but nervous and submissive. Gentle, quiet, and affectionate. Would do better with older kids due to nervousness, 10+. Medical staff noted on 5/24 during an exam: Friendly, social, sweet girl Brandee's finder noted on 5/24 that she was barking at kids when they found her. They said she seemed nippy with strangers and dog reactive, and was shy and scared. They were able to put her in their van for transport to the shelter. Medical Information - 5/30/24 Brandee was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) and began a course of antibiotics. 5/24/24 intake exam noted waxy ears and that Brandee appeared to be postpartum, still lactating with developed mammary glands. They also noted slight dental calculus. Brandee was found to be food motivated, especially with cream cheese, and tolerant of all handling and restraint.
