My foster writes: Nyla is the perfect apartment dog - both in size and energy level. While she'll trot along next to you on a walk with her little legs, she would much rather be sitting on the couch with you watching TV and playing with her toys. She can be a little afraid of new people at first, but after a quick intro she won't leave you alone for belly rubs and chin scratches. Despite loving quality time with her people more than anything, Nyla does very well alone while her fosters are at work and doesn't show any separation anxiety. However, she'll be wiggling to greet you at the door when you get home. Nyla has so much love to give and adopting her is a sure fire way to bring home the sweetest and most loyal best friend.Behavior Assessment:During her assessment on April 2, 2024, Nyla displayed various behaviors. She showed no strength or pulling while on leash and exhibited no reactivity to humans or other dogs. However, she walked with a low body posture and was fearful in new environments.Interactions:Nyla is a bit timid and fearful, especially in unfamiliar surroundings. She warms up slowly with treats and prefers to explore with a low body and tail. While she tolerates soft and exuberant handling, she may display signs of discomfort such as a tucked tail and lip licking.Energy Level and Recommendations:As we have no history on Nyla's behavior in a home environment, it's essential to provide her with daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. Long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and interactive games can help redirect her energy positively.Behavior Determination:Nyla has been assessed as a Level 3 dog, indicating her fearfulness during her time in our care. Therefore, we recommend that she goes to an adult-only home where she can feel safe and supported.Potential Challenges:Fearfulness is the primary challenge for Nyla, and she may benefit from a quiet space to decompress and initiate interactions at her own pace. Providing her with a calm and patient environment will help her adjust and build confidence over time.Despite her initial timidity, Nyla has the potential to become a loving companion in the right environment. With understanding and patience, she will surely blossom and form a strong bond with her new family.A volunteer writes: NYLA. While I think she is gorgeous with her shiny auburn coat and soulful expressive eyes, this is the dog who is often overlooked in the shelter. Medium sized, medium age, not a tiny puppy anymore... by skipping a dog like Nyla, folks miss out on the fabulous traits of a dog who is past the crazy-puppy-energy phase, and who wants nothing more than to just Primary Color: Brown Secondary Color: White Weight: 54 Age: 2yrs 7mths 2wks
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Nyla, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
