My story

Meet Derek! Found as a scared stray, Derek has come a long way—after blossoming in foster care, he is an expert at showing his goofy, puppy-like personality. Derek has been DNA tested and is American Pit Bull Terrier, Boxer, and Staffordshire Terrier. He’s the kind of dog who needs a little time to warm up to new people, but once he does, it’s like flipping a switch—out comes a playful, gentle, and incredibly sweet best friend. Derek’s eyes will absolutely melt your heart, and he is true soul dog material. Derek is housetrained, keeps his kennel spotless, and loves curling up with you on the couch to watch TV (especially if there’s a blanket involved). He thrives on building a routine and knowing what to anticipate. He is an excellent leash walker and loves exploring the outdoors, although new and busy places may make him a bit nervous. He’s dog-friendly and would enjoy a playful doggy companion. Derek has never been around cats so we are unsure how he would coexist! He is not reactive to cats or squirrels on leash, so with time and a patient kitty and proper introductions, they may learn to cohabitate. He’s smart, responsive, and eager to please. Derek loves squeaky toys, tug-of-war, and zooming around the yard. Most of all, he just wants to be near his people. Derek is ready to be someone’s loyal shadow and lifelong companion. Derek is eligible for our Foster-to-Adopt program, which means you can take some time to get to know him in your home before finalizing the adoption.
