My story

“Locket is a sweet, silly gal looking for a soft place to land.When she first arrived at the shelter, it was clear Locket had survived difficult & stressful circumstances. She cowered & trembled, burying her head in the corner of her kennel. This was heartbreaking to see & luckily she caught the eye of our canine behavior team, who knew she needed to get out of the shelter ASAP to decompress.Though she’s definitely timid, Locket has made tremendous progress in her foster home. There is a sunny personality shining through on a regular basis now. Building a relationship with her takes time, patience & a lot of food-related bribery, but there is nothing more rewarding than a kiss on the nose from this girl.Locket would probably be content to roll in the grass, parade around with sticks & chase squirrels in the backyard all day, but her absolute favorite thing is romping around with her foster brother. She wasn’t so sure about him when they first met (anyone new is overwhelming for her), but after he gave her the space she asked for, she started to open up & initiate play. They are now besties!Locket`s crate training is rock solid. Housebreaking is dependable so long as you stick to a routine. If she has one fault, it’s stealing dish rags & socks from the laundry basket.Her foster reports that leash skills & baths are improving. Car rides are still very scary, but they are working on that too.Locket will do best in a quiet, low traffic home where she can continue to build confidence at her pace.” If you want to meet her please email foster@kcpetproject.org.Her ADOPTION FEE IS WAIVED! We want all our dogs to have homes as quickly as possible. In an effort to help dogs with longer stays, those who are deteriorating in the shelter environment, or who are harder to place find homes more quickly, the adoption fee for this dog has been waived.
