Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.lovely Lacey is looking for her forever home!LACEY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Lacey Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd, kelpie mix Best Guess for Age: 4 years as of May 2024 Gender: Female Approximate Weight: 70 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with kids but she can be tested. Due to her high prey drive, Lacey should not go to a home with cats. Currently Living At: DC area foster home Check out this video of Lacey with her fosters: https://youtu.be/oz5Hnz8Ay9g. Check out these videos of Lacey: https://youtu.be/L_WLU_bUjVA, https://youtu.be/lSRTLx85M88, https://youtu.be/dfsPo9TiRNg, https://youtu.be/F_Kbr0biKi4, https://youtu.be/dfsPo9TiRNg, https://youtu.be/lSRTLx85M88, https://youtube.com/shorts/r4XLXC4_qSw and https://youtube.com/shorts/r4XLXC4_qSw. Special Adoption Considerations: Lacey is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Lacey is Looking For: Her forever home! This sweetie landed in the shelter through no fault of her own. She's firmly closed that chapter and is eager to get her new one. The one where she gets her own humans. Where she gets to go on long sniffy walks in the neighborhood, meeting new pup and people pals - and explore the rest of the world! Quality kibble and a cushy dog bed are on her wish lost as well, and she wouldn't refuse to try puppacinos and other tasty treats either. You know what, though? She's way out of the puppy yips and as a wise, experienced dog knows what's most important in life: Being safe and loved and under her own roof. That's right at the top of her wish list. In exchange she promises adoring gazes and loyal companionship for all her days. At 70 pounds, that's a pretty huggable snuggle buddy and a solid presence by your side. How about it?Notes from the Shelter: Lacey is a very tolerant dog and deals with all the other pups' behaviors during playgroups at the shelter! They even use her as a greeter dog to help test the other pups' temperaments. She is the queen of putting up with other dogs' rude behaviors and loves to wrestle -- we think she will love the dog park to play with friends! What My DC Foster Says About Me: Lacey is the best dog!!! Adores her people, likes to give full body hugs, did great at the event with her handler. She gives lots of kisses and is just a giant love bug. She's done well in the crate and hasn't had any accidents so far. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.
