** $200 in pledges for the rescue that pulls ** ** New Video & Behavior Note 11/6 ** Joan ACCT-A-178943 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Joan must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER, RESCUE PARTNER or FOSTER by SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 10TH at 10AM. Should Joan's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Joan was very nervous when she first came to ACCT as a stray, after being found tied to a pole, but she's warming up to her friends at the shelter. She's been warming up with treats and slow introductions, and we have gotten to see her zooming around the yard, walking on the leash well, and enjoying her time outside on a day trip. Joan has had two really good dog meets, in which she maintained bouncy but loose posture, kept her tail wagging, and gave the other dogs their space, while letting her handler know that she was very excited to be there. Easy walker, only pulls bc she wants to get to other dogs to play!! Tries to initiate play with other dogs and has a loose body around them. Beautiful condition and healthy weight. Medium energy. Housetrained. Can be fearful so I started slow with petting her head and she then started leaning in for attention and gentle pets, then would go off to sniff. She's a sweet girl, but needs someone to give her time to open up and trust. She was scared of treats bouncing towards her. LOVED chasing balls and toys! Will bring back and drop so you can throw another one. She is a great girl who needs some time to open up and feel safe. 10/26/24 volunteer day trip notes: Joan got out to see the fall colors today and I really think she had a great time. She was nervous at first (who wouldn't be going into a car with a stranger) but once we started out hike she wanted to stroll and see the world through her nose! Joan walked great on a leash, next to me along the sidewalk once we got onto the trail she was so happy to stroll and simply stare as passing dogs and people. I noted she didn't jump or launch at anyone - just sniffs and stares. I have a feeling a lot was new for Joan today. Joan needs a family where she can give all the love she has. She took treats nicely and would wait patiently whilst we let others pass and loves pets! A true pleasure to take out! Please someone come for this lovely pup! 10/23/24 Behavior Evaluation notes: KNOWN HISTORY: Stray KENNEL PRESENTATION: Joan was laying on her bed when approached. She looked up with neutral eyes and a tense body. The handler crouched down on the edge of kennel and called her over but she did not move. When she saw the leash she stood up and came to the front to sniff it and gave a couple low wags. She allowed the handler to slowly place the leash over her head and exited without issue. LEASH SKILLS: Pulls minimally, very fearful at this time HANDLING: In the yard Joan was timid and nervous, but warmed up with time. At first she sniffed around but loosened up a bit when treats were presented. She had a neutral body and neutral eyes and took treats very gently from both handlers, giving some low wags as well. She allowed me to lightly pet her head and sides without issue, remaining tolerant and neutral, but not leaning in or opening up fully. She would get spooked if you pet her too suddenly and would flinch away- needs a slow and gentle approach. Treats really help her to gain confidence PLAY No interest TOYS: No interest Joan is a timid girl who we suspect is housetrained, she loves chasing toys, and running around the play-yard. We think Joan would do best with someone who can really be consistent with her decompression and positive reinforcement. - ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia.
