Meet Yaya, a gentle sweet potato in search of a patient, understanding person who can help her build confidence and feel safe. This timid girl is easily overwhelmed by busy environments and loud noises - so she likes to stick close to her people for reassurance. Yaya's big, soft eyes tell the story of a dog who wants to trust but just needs a bit of extra time. She is most comfortable with a slow, gentle approach. With the right person, Yaya has the potential to come out of her shell and show her loving personality. She's hoping for a calm, patient adopter who can give her the time and encouragement she needs to truly blossom. Could you be the special someone to help Yaya find her confidence? Eligible for rescue, foster, and adoption. Meet Yaya at ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., or email foster@acctphilly.org to express interest in fostering her. She felt shut down, her ears were back, and she was shaking, but she seemed so so sweet and we decided to take her out for a day trip. She was an absolute dream. She was nervous, but she really trusted easily. She followed me and my partner without having to put any pressure on the leash, and stuck to our sides. She LOVED the car so much, it felt like that was her happy place. We put the windows down and she just sniffed the fresh air and her fear disappeared. We took her to the Kelly Drive path and Cosmic Coffee, and she fell asleep both in the coffee shop and outside. She was so tolerant; she let us kiss her, pet her, carry her, wrap her in a blanket when it got a little breezy. We sat by the water and she napped really hard for about an hour - she seemed absolutely exhausted. When she woke up, she seemed to be more herself. She was a little more confident and alert, but she was just as sweet as can be. We were sad to bring her back and can't want to come see her again. We hope she gets adopted quickly. She is the sweetest little nugget (she really is small!! Like super tiny!) and any family would be lucky to have her. In summary: she is calm, tolerant, great on a leash, great in the car, nervous but trusting, and loves to sleep and be by your side. Loved her!!! Behavioral notes: Per Volunteer 11/10: I had the pleasure of spending about 30 min. with Yaya yesterday. She is the sweetest girl with so much love to give, but the world has been unkind to her and she is very scared, shutdown, and timid. With a little bit of love and calm, I think she'd come out of her shell be the happy girl she deserves to be. She already knows sit! Yaya was shaking the whole time I was with her in the yard but it didn't stop her from seeking attention - she jumped on the bench and sat right next to me, even laying her head down on my leg and eliciting pets. She may benefit from another playful and more confident doggie friend, as she galloped over to the fence to sniff dogs as they passed. She definitely needs someone willing to work with her and give her what she needs to come out of her shell. She's amazing. 11/5/24 staff noted: Did well for her dog meet but was quite fearful and nervous. She was afraid to approach the other dog but eventually went if for a butt sniff. Yaya will need slow intros with calm dogs to do her best. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week.
