Meet Marcus, affectionately known as Marc, who is available for adoption today!Marcus was very scared and shut down in the shelter as he is scared around other dogs and cautious around people. He has several scars across his body, so we can only imagine that life was hard for him as a stray or in his previous environment. After spending a few weeks with our family as a foster, Marcus has shown what a sweet, happy dog he is! He LOVES to be outside, and is more than content to just lay outside by himself or throw around his toys solo, but his favorite thing to do is play soccer with his foster dad!A few other great qualities about Marc:Potty trainedCrate trained (can go 12+ hours)Chews his toys and eats well in crateSits to be leashed up to come insideGoes outside when toldGoes in crate when guided, but stops to take off leash (this took time!!)Allows us to dry off wet/muddy feetLoves hugs/pets from his foster mom and dadStarting to come inside when calledVery quiet and rarely barksWalks well on leash and doesn’t pull hard, just excited at first but can be easily reeled inA few things Marc needs to work on:He won’t take treats from a hand yetHe is still very nervous around other dogs and new peopleHe likes to dig for rocks but is easily redirectedNeeds work on leash to go on longer walks, he stops and sits when unsure of what to doTests the limits on what is and is not a toy both inside and outside (like hoses, shoes, etc)Marcus would do best in a home with a yard and without other dogs, but is starting to warm up to one of our four resident dogs (the smallest female dog we have). He is very on edge around our one male dog even though Marcus us more than 2X his size, we believe part of that is our male is very high energy vs our little girl he likes is low energy and calm. Marcus has seen small children and is just as nervous as seeing a new adult, however he has a very gentle demeanor and we believe we would do well with children if proper introductions are done while his space is respected. He shows interest in our newborn baby and whines when she cries to let us know she needs something!Overall Marcus is a beautiful, kind soul who wants nothing more than to put his scary past behind him and become part of a family he can call his own. If that might be you, please reach out so you can meet him and see what a great dog he is yourse
If you have any questions or would like to adopt MARCUS, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
