My story

Helloo friends! My name is ATHOS and here is some info about me: PHYSICAL INFO: Breed: Retriever Mix Age: approx 4 years Gender: Male Weight: 37 lbs (17 kg)  Height: 79 cm (paws to top of my head) Length: 78 cm (head to butt) Neck Circumference: 38 cm Current Location: MEXICO CITY RESCUE STORY - I was found living on the street, hanging out at a gas station with two other pups in Chalco, a high-abandonment area in Mexico City. My rescuers noticed I was quite malnourished and my tail had been cut off (although it had healed). I was extremely thin for my size and was losing hair from several parts of my body, most likely due to malnutrition and living on the street for so long. Despite my deteriorated physical state, I was surprisingly comfortable around people and was very receptive to human touch from the beginning. I was never scared or nervous or showed any signs of aggression. From the moment I was picked up by my rescuers and taken to the vet, I just wanted affection. I was never nervous or anxious even during the vet check up. The vet determined I was dehydrated and underweight but otherwise a healthy boy! I have been slowly gaining weight since. My rescuers had me at a local shelter for a few months and then moved me to a pension in November of 2023. Unfortunately, they stopped paying for my care at the pension, however the owners of this pension continue to care for me as if I was their own. They know what a special boy I am and know I deserve to find my loving forever home! TEMPERAMENT - I am a very social boy! I love playing with other pups, male and female of all sizes. I am always playful and friendly and don't display any territorial behavior in my home or in new places. I show no signs of resource guarding and am used to eating my meals with my pack of friends. (Fun fact: I like to eat lying down - video ) I am extremely friendly with humans from the get-go; super affectionate and crave human attention (video). I love getting pets, cuddles, and am always ready to play, but I also like to chill too (video) I am food motivated and receptive to training. I have a calm and friendly demeanor, which would make me a great family dog. So far, I haven't been nervous or scared in any situation. I love going for walks and LOVE chasing balls. I would do best with an active family that will give me lots of affection and play time. ENERGY LEVEL - Medium - I’ve got a great blend of energy for adventures and chill for cuddle seshes. I need an active family who will give me the exercise I need; I promise to repay you with couch cuddles afterwards! GETS ALONG WITH: Kids – Unknown.  Dogs –  Yes. I enjoy playing with other dogs at the shelter. I eat my meals surrounded by other dogs and don’t demonstrate any resource guarding. Here I am eating with my friends! Cats – Unknown. PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise. TRAINING: Leash skills – Work in progress. I will need some leash training, as I tend to pull in various directions to sniff... but I'm not reactive towards cars, people or other dogs on the street. A well-fitted collar or harness and some dedicated leash training will help set me up for success! House trained – Work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home :) Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.  HEALTH NOTES: I am neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records. I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying North. NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter. ADOPTION FEE: My adoption fee is $728.00 ($650 + applicable taxes), which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver. ------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: Please visit wcpdogrescue.com to read about West Coast Paws Dog Rescue and its adoption process. The info included in each WCP bio is provided to us from the international rescuer. WCP does not have in-person access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions, although we ask for video proof of a dog's attributes wherever possible. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person(s) adopting them and the environment in which they live.  WCP is unable to guarantee the accuracy of a dogs age and/or breed. These are strictly "best guesses" based on veterinary exams and their educated estimates. ##2240457##
