My story

Billion (also responds to Bill and Billy) is an excellent dog! He is trusting, smart, goofy, happy, playful, attentive, responsive, and curious. He’s not perfect, but with time and attention and a smidge of consistent training and correction, he’s going to be great for whoever chooses him. Bill’s been staying with me for six weeks now. Since day one, it was clear to me that his previous family must have loved him and invested time and energy into him. He was trusting of me since the moment I brought him home. He also knew a few commands and was housebroken. Bill knows how to sit, stay, down, give eyes, shake, and boop. He is extremely treat-motivated and focused when he trains in a controlled environment. He is also good at sitting and giving eyes when on walks. Bill is good on walks but has definite room for improvement. He pulls a bit and can become distracted, especially when he is aware of a dog nearby. We are currently working hard on the heel command and I have full confidence he will master it over time. He responds to correction very well and does not become discouraged or impatient. Decreasing his fixation on other dogs, keeping him focused, and getting him to walk at heel without pulling is our main training focus at the moment. Regarding dogs - Bill lived with a dog previously. He is very interested in dogs and I’m certain he would prefer to live in a household with another dog of his size, or at least have the opportunity to interact with another good-natured dog in his future life. He is very playful and attempts to engage in play with his human in the absence of having a dog buddy. With humans - Bill is very happy and excited when a new person interacts with him. He has shown zero sign of aggression, but he is a 55lb dog with some puppy energy, and he can get a bit jumpy. Care should be taken around small humans. In the home - Bill is a wonderful and enthusiastic housemate. He had a small issue marking inside the house the first couple weeks, but he hasn’t marked once since his neuter surgery two weeks ago. I feel confident leaving him home for the course of a workday. He hasn’t destroyed a single item in my house. However, when he’s feeling playful, he will test your patience by grabbing a slipper or a sock. This energy is easily redirected by offering a kong or bone. I think Bill would thrive in just about any cat-free household that is willing to show him love and attention, and to provide moderate daily exercise and mental stimulation. He’s a lovely dog who’s equally game to explore the outside world or spend hours curled up on the couch. He’s three now; I think by six or seven he’s going to be just about a perfect dog for whoever gives him the chance. Instagram: abillygoodboy Email: margaret.acctfoster@gmail.com
