My story

Meet Dickies! Dickies entered Irvine Animal Care Center as a stray. When he wasn't claimed during the hold period, we scooped him up on December 4th to become a Frosted Face. He is estimated to be 15 years old, weighs 41 lbs., and is a true gentleman. Dickies is so very sweet and a social butterfly! He goes from person to person during our weekend Open Houses, greeting everyone and letting them know he LOVES being petted. Dickies enjoys going for walks, and as you can see in the video, he takes it slow and steady. When Dickies needs a break, he is happy to ride in a stroller and take in the sights and smells. Dickies spent two months in a Foster home, which has helped us learn so much more about him in a variety of settings. Dickies is a great companion and rides well in the car. He goes with his Foster mom to a weekly game night, and he does wonderfully with all the attention he receives and with the activity going in. Dickies is good with other dogs, both on-site at FFF and in public. His Foster mom notes that Dickie is eager to meet other dogs during their walks and is happy to engage in sniffing. When one dog even playfully bopped him in the face—Dickie didn’t react at all. Good boy! Dickies also passed his cat test with flying colors at FFF and has done well with three other cats he’s met in his Foster home. Dickies is not interested in chasing them, but if a cat gives him a playful bop, he barks in response - understandably! Like many senior dogs, Dickies is deaf, but it certainly doesn't hold him back! His Foster Mom has been teaching him American Sign Language (ASL), and he's been picking it up wonderfully. He’s quick to learn, and you just need to get his attention before giving commands. Dickies already knows several signs, including "come," "yes," and "no." He is currently working on mastering "sit," "water," and "toilet". How cool is that?! Dickies's Foster mom has observed that he seems to bond deeply with one person, and he’s especially comfortable around women. He loves being around and getting attention from most people, including respectful children! Dickie has shown some sensitivity to being touched while he's sleeping. He startles easily because he can't hear, so it's best to make sure Dickies knows you’re there and to approach him gently. Dickies is potty trained and sleeps through the night without needing to go out. Dickies's ideal family would include someone who is home most of the time and understands how deeply he bonds to his human. Dickies is back on-site and ready for his forever home! To meet him, please drop by between 10 AM and 3 PM any day of the week, or email placement@frostedfacesfoundation.org to schedule an appointment.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Dickies, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
