My story

Meet Dewey Decimal! Dewey Decimal entered Downey Shelter as an emaciated stray and was not claimed. When we welcomed him as a Frosted Face in December 2024, we didn't know anything about Dewey's previous life, but one thing was clear: he had not been treated with the care he deserved in a long time. In the months since then, Dewey has learned to enjoy ear scratches and gentle pets. He does well in a play group with other dogs on-sire. And he loves the simple pleasures of going on a leisurely stroll and napping in a cozy dog bed. Dewey recently returned from six weeks in a Foster home. While there, he had surgery to remove a painful eye and received lots of TLC as he recovered. After spending time healing and learning what it feels like to be safe and loved, Dewey is now ready to find a family who will truly cherish him—for the rest of his days. Might it be you? Dewey's foster mom shares: "Spring is a season of renewal—a time for fresh starts, growth, and second chances. For Dewey, this season marks a beautiful transformation not just in his life, but in the lives of those lucky enough to know him. When Dewey first arrived in our home, he was wary and unsure. Trust didn’t come easy, and the hustle and bustle of a home—kids, dogs, Amazon deliveries —felt overwhelming. But with time, patience, and a lot of love, he started to let down his guard. Dewey has learned to trust us, consistently accept the presence of neighborhood kids, and shares space with our resident dog. As my 9-year-old puts it, “Dewey is a nice dog once you get to know him. He’s just kinda grumpy sometimes.” Well, that's an old man for you! When it comes to activity, slow and steady wins the race. While Dewey may not be able to go far, he very much enjoys his time outside. Dewey is a quiet, low-maintenance companion who doesn’t ask for much—just an understanding home where he can continue to feel safe. Watching him relax, explore, and simply enjoy being a dog has been one of the most rewarding parts of fostering him. If you believe in second chances, quiet loyalty, and the beauty of slow and steady love—Dewey just might be your guy." Please email placement@frostedfacesfoundation.org to schedule an appointment to meet this very special, resilient boy.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Dewey Decimal, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
