What my friends at ACC say about me:The staff think I would do best in a home where there are no other cats or dogs.I would do best in a home with only adult humans.I am looking for a home with a patient person.I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace.I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home.I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you.Garfield has made nice improvements since his first assessment and was in the cubby, looking slightly concerned but sniffed treats and then began eating them. While eating treats he accepted petting and cheek rubs while leaning in for them. Benefits from a slow approach and gentle attention.Garfield interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is fairly easy to handle and tolerates some petting. No known history of behavioral problems. We recommend that he go to an adult only home with some cat experience preferred and be well counseled in fearful cat behavior.A volunteer writes: There's a Simon & Garfunkel song that starts with the line "I am just a poor boy though my story's seldom told." This lyric popped into my head when I met Garfield, a handsome ginger who seemed curious about me but not ready to share his story. What we do know about his past comes from the people in his previous home, who told us that Garfield preferred to hide and did his share of stress meowing--which makes me think something in the household left him feeling frightened and unconfident. Now at the Care Center, Garfield has been decompressing and getting his bearings. He's been eyeing all the activity, sniffing treats, and trying to get more comfortable with petting. Garfield could really use new pet parents who want this poor boy's story to have a happy, loving, confident ending. Make it happen for young loaf of a cat by introducing yourself to him today!
