Shaggy is at our shelter. Please submit an application from our website or just come in to meet him during open hours! Our sweet Shaggy boy, light of our lives, star of our kennel and of adoption events- he just craves love! And we are happy to give it to him. Every Heartland staff member and volunteer adores this boy. We rescued this adorable pup from Chicago Animal Control in February, where he had been taken after he lost his home. We don't know why his previous owners relinquished him, but we do know he was so, so sad, and really wanted to cuddle with our volunteer friends. We couldn't resist his sad puppy dog eyes, so we brought him to Heartland. Shaggy loves all people, he adores all the staff and volunteers. He is a favorite among volunteers, especially new ones, because he is what we call an "efficient" walker - he gets his business done quick and then just wants to cuddle. He is like a giant baby, and we love him! He loves his enrichment - busy bags, kongs, bones, toys, anything that will keep his mind busy. He's also very food motivated which makes him fun to train, he loves to practice his "sits" and excited to learn any new tricks you'd like to teach him. Shaggy loves playgroup and gets along with many dogs, as his videos show! Shaggy is energetic, friendly, and outgoing (he loved going to brunch patios with his city-based foster when he was with her!). He also has enjoyed long lakefront walks and afterwards is happy to curl up next to you for a nap! Shaggy spent a couple of weeks in a foster home recently. Below is what his foster mom has to say about this special boy! "Shaggy Rogers is such a friendly (to people & dogs), handsome, cuddle bug of a dog!! He still has lots of energy, being just a year old but long walks & mental stimulation (like kongs) help to wear him out! He loves to be cuddled & pet and will love to lay/lean on you which is so sweet! He is very food motivated which helps with training (we’ve taught him paw & “place” (to go into his crate) within a week and a half! He can be a bit of a puller on his leash so he still has some to learn there & to be finally housebroken (he’s so close!). With Shaggy’s loving nature & beautiful looks, he will be such a good companion in his forever home!!!" He really is the best boy. Please ask about him today! Shaggy's adoption fee has been generously sponsored. This animal is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Shaggy Rogers, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
