My story

Meet Khakee! For most of his 9 years, Khakee lived as a backyard dog — no walks, no couch time, and no indoor potty training. When his elderly owner planned to move out of the country, it looked like Khakee might be left behind for good. But his guardian’s niece stepped in, determined to find him a future filled with comfort and care — and that’s how Khakee became a Frosted Face on February 13, 2025. Thankfully, over the past 3 months, Khakee has been in a loving foster home, where he is finally learning what it means to be part of a family. His foster mom shared an update about the many ways Khakee has blossomed: "Khakee is such a sweetheart. He loves being around people and will follow us around the house. When we come home, he runs to greet us with a wagging tail, then plops onto the couch and lays his head on our chests. He naps most of the day and gets the zoomies when it’s time to eat — it’s so cute! Khakee walks well on leash and can do about a mile at a time. It took some work, but he hasn’t had an accident in over a month now. He does best when we take him out every 3–4 hours. He’s very treat-motivated, and we use them to get him outside since he doesn’t always want to leave the comfort of the house. Khakee doesn’t bark much and has been doing great with other dogs, but we wouldn’t recommend him for a home with kids. He’s still learning boundaries and gives a warning snap if you try to pick him up. He’s also sensitive about the area where his mass was removed. But he’s never bitten and is easily redirected with a calm voice and gentle touch. Khakee is just so precious, loving, and a joy to have around. It’s like he’s learning how to be a dog now."
