My story

Meet Gretel — a sensitive soul with a heart full of love, just looking for the right place to call home. Gretel is a 1 year and 2-month-old Hound mix who originally came to us as a stray in February. After her hold and spay, she was adopted in March and coexisted wonderfully in her home with kids and another dog. Sadly, she was returned in April — not because she wasn’t loved, but because she and the family’s cats didn’t see eye to eye.Inside her kennel, Gretel can be reactive — barking or appearing nervous — but don’t let that fool you. Once she’s outside, her true personality shines through. She becomes calm, affectionate, and eager for connection. It’s clear she may not have had the gentlest start in life — quick movements or raised hands can make her flinch. But despite her fear, her sweetness always shines through.Gretel has been a great addition to PAC playgroups. Submissive, playful, and a little unsure of the world, Gretel just needs some guidance and reassurance. She responds well to correction from other dogs and is learning quickly with the support of our staff.Gretel would do best in a cat-free home, ideally with a friendly, confident dog companion and a family willing to help her continue building trust. With a little training and a lot of love, she’ll be the most loyal, loving companion.Let’s help this shy sweetheart find the home she truly deserves.
