My story

Meet Ruby! Ruby is being fostered in Fort Mill, SC., near Charlotte, NC. Ruby is a sweet, young, fun loving, energetic Border Collie/Aussie mix that is looking for her forever home. She is 2 yrs. old, weighs 26 lbs., and is an absolute love bug! She is spayed, microchipped, up to date on shots, and current on heartworm and flea & tick prevention Ruby loves to run, race and play! She loves to play fetch with her foster family and play chase, bitey face and tug with her foster home dog buddies! Ruby loves to go for hikes in the woods and for walks in the neighborhood. She loves to stay close with her people and pack, share lap time, snuggles and get belly rubs! She walks well on a leash and rides well in a crate in the car. Ruby has learned so much while being in her foster home for the past several months, but will need continued training and supervision in her new home. Ruby is eager to learn and is easily corrected with gentle, clear communication and positive training methods. Ruby needs slow introductions when meeting new people and dogs, and has shown to be afraid of small children and sometimes young men. Ruby sleeps well in her crate overnight with no accidents, but does not like to stay in her crate while home alone more than 3 to 3 ½ hrs., after which she begins to have separation and crate anxiety. The best home for Ruby will be one with calm, patient owners that are home a lot, have a large fenced yard, and have time, patience and knowledge to work with a high energy herding breed. Ruby will do well in a home with another young, active, playful dog of similar size and play style. Ruby will also do best in a home without small children. Any children in the home should be at least 12 yrs. old and understand how to interact with herding breeds. Ruby has a high prey drive with squirrels, rabbits and birds, so will probably not be a good fit with cats or other small animals. A good introduction to the adopter’s other dog(s) and family members is required before adoption. If you think Ruby will be a good fit for your home and family, please fill out an application with Australian Shepherds Furever! https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to her new furever family.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Ruby, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
