Dante - 8 months, 40lbs, Cattle Dog & Spaniel Mix, Neutered - Needs to gain weight! Expected to be about 50lbs full grown - once he gets some weight and muscle onto him Our Team Says: Dante grew up in boarding/a shelter setting since he was 8 weeks old so he's a bit shy. Due to this he needs a home in a calm area, the burbs would be ideal. Our dream home for him would also have a dog in it so he can learn how to dog :) Thier Foster Parent Says: "Dante is a certified good boy. One of those dogs that just has a great demeanor and soul. Just needs a patient person to help him adjust to the world after having grown up in a shelter. He's figuring things out, there's a lot of new stuff for him. The good news is Dante has really good processing power: if he finds something scary he's able to work through it. He's gentle, not super high octane. He loves to sit on the sofa. Respectful of the home and fine being left home alone. Seems to be a big fan of tearing up cardboard but hasn't figured out toys yet. It's important to give him his space he doesn't really enjoy being touched (unless he's cuddling with you, it's on his terms) and sometimes gets spooked by his person but he wants to participate in whatever is going on, follows the pack. And very sweetly does want to sleep with you at night. Great with other dogs - small and big, young and old. Whoever gets to adopt him is a lucky person because he's the perfect dog to peel back the layers and figure out who he is and what makes him happy. Today for example he picked up a stick at the park and we saw a few seconds of pure joy. Dante needs to be potty trained since he grew up in a shelter and because of this a home with a yard I think is going to be super key for him. Right now he's figured out pee pads but the goal is to get him to go outside in due time, can't blame him since he's lived in a shelter/boarding his whole life. He's a lovely dog and I know he's going to have a great future, making someone very happy.“ Potty trained?Working on this skill. Has gotten pee pads down. Working on going outside. Can't blame him since he grew up in a shelter/boarding. Crate trained?Nope. Foster mom doesn't use one. He is trust worthy outside of a crate. Social with dogs?Yes. So good with other dogs!! Would do best in a home with a dog so he can learn the ropes of being a dog. Social with children? (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)Yes…he's really gentle but wouldn't be a good fit for a home with young kids as they can be spooky to shiy dogs Social with cats?Yes. Almost all puppies have the potential to be friends with a cat. It’s on the adopter to know their cat’s temperament and preferences and to teach their puppy respectful manners. Mouthy play: Not really - he's gentle with human body parts. Respectful of the home. Does like to chew up cardboard. Leash manners:Learning. We think he'll be good on the leash as he doesn't pull super hard and does look at the human for guidance Separation anxiety:Nope - fine left home alone. Not an issue. Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP and Bordetella vaccines (for dogs under 4 months old, adopters will need to finish the DHPP vaccine series and administer the Rabies vaccine at 16 weeks of age), spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer uponHow this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives. PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though! This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. LEARN MORE ABOUT US: socialteesnyc.org and Instagram @socialteesnyc ##2333917##
