My story

Introducing Meridian! Energetic Cuddly Playful Velcro Dane Personality: Meridian has a personality that ranges from calm and cuddly to playful and wild. She loves to follow her people around and supervise everything they do. With ninja-like skills, she will quickly crawl into your lap despite her size, and she’s known for sneaking in big surprise kisses! She has the sweetest soul and gentle eyes. Socialness: Meridian adores all people! She has been around children of all ages and loves the attention she receives from them. If people get her overly excited, she may become mouthy and jump up, so calm introductions are required. She will bark at strangers outside but greets them nicely once they are inside. She enjoys the company of other dogs, particularly Great Danes and other giant breeds. However, she plays very rough and has some prey drive, making her unsuitable for homes with smaller dogs. If she is in a home with another dog, it must be a medium-sized breed or larger that tolerates rough play. When meeting other dogs on a leash or at events, she is neutral and does not bark or react. Cats are not recommended for Meridian, as she has shown too much interest in smaller animals. Likes: Playing with other Great Danes Car rides (especially when she can stick her head out the window!!!) Toys Food & treats Meeting new people Dislikes: Cats or smaller dogs in her home Unstructured play with dogs that don’t tolerate roughhousing Being left alone for long hours Training: Meridian knows several commands, including sit, back, kennel, come, off, up, go lie down, and car. Treats are a great motivator for her. She is housebroken but does drink a lot of water due to her medication, so potty breaks are needed. She is crate-trained and uses it for feeding, naps, pacing management, and when unsupervised. She is working on curbing her counter-surfing and mouthing behavior when overly excited. Health: Meridian has epilepsy but has been seizure-free since November after being placed on new medication. She requires two different medications twice a day at the same time each day. She must also maintain a consistent diet, as changes in food can affect the effectiveness of her medication. Otherwise, she is in great health and thriving in her foster home. Forever Home Wish list: No cats or dogs that are smaller than her. A giant-breed dog companion that enjoys rough play is preferred. A family that can provide her medication at the same time every day. A home where she won’t be left alone for more than 6 hours at a time. She thrives with companionship. A physical fence is recommended to ensure safety while she plays but is not required. Fun Fact: She is lower energy overall but has bursts of enthusiasm where she wrestles like a WWE professional with her Dane housemates. If you think Meridian will be a great addition to your family, please reach out to us by following one of the options below. 1. If you have already completed the adoption or foster application process and are an approved adopter with UMGDR, please contact Meridian’s Placement Coordinator at katie@thegreatdanerescue.com to learn more about him. 2.
