Kenji is a kind and gentle pup who, though a bit scared, is already showing her sweet side. She was easy to check in, and while she was initially nervous, she still came up for some loving pets. Kenji has been friendly with staff and volulnteers alike and she walks well on a leash. Kenji is looking for a calm and loving home where she can feel safe and cherished. Could you be the one to help her thrive? Meet her at ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Videos: Kenji loves her toy: https://youtu.be/KibgFC94rJA Kenji loves her ball: https://youtu.be/Bgk5ldDjXzM Happy Kenji: https://youtube.com/shorts/VRPIWkroUKg?feature=share Kenji, Ellie, Blue Beau and Jingle drop leash: https://youtu.be/nfW4lJ_9VLM https://youtu.be/6kBi3Utg1eE https://youtu.be/u_s91Qqf-DA BEHAVIOR NOTES: Per foster 4/20/25: We have been fostering Kenji for a little over a week now and she has totally won over the entire house. She’s extremely calm, sweet, and gentle. No destructive behaviors at all, no accidents in the home, and has been very good with our cats! Though she’s still in her decompression period and kept separated from our cats, she gets along very well with a neighbors outside cat. No chase behavior at all with him. She also really likes other dogs! Just meeting dogs on the street has really helped her come out of her shell. She likes small walks, but seems to be quite the lazy dog who would prefer to lay next to you instead (unless there’s a dog around to play with, that’s another story). Her only yellow flag is she doesn’t like car rides, that’s the only time she’s had an accident, but hoping to work on that! Kenji is a perfect angel who would make such a great addition to any type of family! Per foster 4/16/25: Kenji is the ✨Unbothered Queen ✨. She might just be the most calm/easy dog I’ve ever met. She spends most of her time snoozing away, and is so content as long as she’s on a cozy spot. Here and there she will get little bursts of energy and excitement, but even at her most excited she’s sooo chill. The only accident she had was the car ride home, but after 4 days no accidents in the house, she definitely appears housebroken. She doesn’t show any knowledge of words like “walk, outside, sit” but she plays fetch very well (other than getting tired after a full minute of playing lol). She loves when she gets attention from people or other dogs, but not needy by any means. No signs of separation anxiety, she is fine alone during the work day, and fine in her crate overnight. Her tail wags the most every time we walk by or she hears young children which is the cutest thing. With her temperament, she would thrive in a house with young kids. Allows all handling, super easy to walk, very tolerant of everything, and just sweet as can be. I have full confidence she will do great with cats as she barely reacts when she sees ours (who we currently keep separated). Our neighbor has an outside cat who has been hanging with her in the backyard, she has yet to chase him! Just a little perk up, couple wags of the tail, and then back to slumber. She isn’t the most playful, but does love to play a little fetch with her tennis ball. She also collects all her toys and sleeps with them all in her dog bed (maybe they remind her of her puppies?). She has some sort of injury on her back leg, when standing still she doesn’t put weight on it, but walks on it fine! I don’t think she will ever be a very active dog, but she definitely enjoys small walks around the neighborhood (especially if she can meet a dog friend!). I can’t wait for her to come more out of her shell, but she is quite the dream dog and any family would be lucky to have her!! Per foster 4/14/25: She’s doing great so far! She had an accident on the way home but was very tolerant of the bath! Once we got home she passed out pretty quickly, she seems exhausted. It’s only been a few hours and she has warmed up to us a lot. Little bursts of energy and playfulness, but she is soo extremely chill. I think she’s going to do well with our cats as she has already noticed them with no reaction (they are separated on next floor but can see from stairs). All positive reactions when she sees people or dogs on walks. It’s cute to see her perk up and wag her tail when we went past young kids. She doesn’t put any weight on her back leg when standing still, but she seems to walk fine on it! She is so easy to handle on walks, just goes slow and listens well. I can’t wait to see her come out of her shell a little more, but Kenji is a low maintenance sweetheart!! Per short term foster 4/7: Kenji is such a sweet, gentle, and playful girl!! Although it has taken her some time to open up (understandably due to going through a lot: has possibly recently had puppies, currently healing from a wound on her back leg), you would never guess with her optimism, cuddliness and love. She is also incredibly chill - I have yet to see her bark or react to anyone/anything, as she is only alert and curious when people, bikers, and dogs walk by us. She's always looking for pets and love, and doesn't need much else!! I couldn't recommend her enough to potential adopters. 03/30/2025 staff notes: Per two Green volunteers who each took Kenji out for a walk today, she gave them no issues, was very easygoing and relaxed. Came out and returned to kennel easily. 03/26/2025 staff notes: She was able to be fully checked in without any issues. She was kind of scared but would come up for pets. Sweet pup just scared 03/29/2025 staff notes, playgroup: Steerable at the gate - water & can. Came in quick, crossed half the yard before being sniffed - posture hunched, liplicks, continued running around. Nervous, dainty, cautious. Loosened slightly and became a bit more sociable and curious throughout, but remained notably submissive (rolled over, belly up, when Ellie sniffed her a few times) 03/26/2025 finder described her as "friendly" ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia.
