** $500 Incentive For The Rescue That Pulls! ** Chance (ACCT-A-216172) came to the shelter on March 27th after being found as a stray near 22nd and Diamond Streets. He was reportedly part of a group of dogs, but being the smallest, he was getting picked on. Though understandably timid and underweight upon arrival, Chance has been nothing but sweet, gentle, and grateful for affection. This four-year-old mixed breed has begun to slowly blossom at the shelter. He walks well on leash, enjoys gentle interactions, and has demonstrated friendly social skills in playgroups. He has a calm and sensitive demeanor and would likely thrive in a quiet, patient home that allows him to build trust and confidence at his own pace. He’s already shown he’s capable of warming up when given kindness—and has even joined several successful dog groups with a soft presence. Chance has also been an excellent patient during his medical care. He recently recovered smoothly from his neuter and was started on treatment for a mild upper respiratory infection (common in shelter dogs). He has a clean bill of health aside from a congenital condition called pes varus (inward-turned back feet), which doesn’t seem to cause him any pain or limit his movement. Despite everything, Chance has remained gentle and tolerant of handling through it all. Chance spent some time at an offsite adoption location, during which he got a little overexcited and mouthy, and gave his dogwalker a tooth scratch. Due this incident, he is currently on a bite quarantine until 5/5. Chance spent most of his quarantine in foster care, and the foster had nothing but good things to say! While we don't normally hold dogs with a bite quarantine at the shelter, since it was so minor and Chance is such a good boy, we are urgently trying to find Chance placement with a rescue partner who can work with him on his overexcited behavior, which seems to be purely kennel based. If the rescue is in PA, Chance can leave the shelter now! Chance is the kind of dog who’s just waiting for someone to believe in him. Could that someone be you? PER FOSTER 4/25-5/2/2025: Behavior: We just had the pleasure of hosting Chance at our house for a week while on BQ. This boy is so sweet and all wiggles! A little about Chance below: Handling: Chance LOVES his people. He craves human attention and greets you with the fastest tail and a loose body. At the beginning of the week Chance was jumping up on us every time he greeted us, but we would turn away whenever he did. By the end of the week Chance quickly learned and was barely jumping up! He loves belly rubs and would excitedly lick our faces in return. After spending the week with him it doesn't seem he has a mean bone in his body. All he needs is a human to show him the best way to express his excitement! Inside Behavior: Chance was such a good boy for us! After a few days he was fully housetrained and would even start barking when he had to poop. In the house he stayed in our small foster room alone for much of the day. He was quiet 80% of the time with some bouts of barking when he heard noises outside. One behavior Chance should work on is chewing in the house. Once he got through his toys he would chew through things in the room that he found, like our futon. When he was with us he wouldn't chew on household things so it seemed to be an anxious behavior when he's alone. He spent time in the crate and was vocal but seemed to get used to it, and the quiet periods were getting longer and longer! Overall, he was very easy to care for and very gentle with handling and taking food. He would lay in the kitchen while I cooked and never jumped up or tried to steal food. He just splooted away happy to be included! Chance LOVES toys and is a super chewer. He enjoyed squeakies, bones, kongs, and everything in between. He should go to a home who is willing to provide him enrichment to get that energy out! Leash/Walks: On leash Chance is amazing. He is easy to direct and checks in with you. He prances along because he's so excited to be outside! Whenever we got back from the walk or for general potty breaks, Chance would prance around the yard and sometimes dive right into the grass just to lay there and soak in the sun. He loved chasing tennis balls outside. He would sometimes get zoomies and get a little overstimulated and mouthy with your hand while playing, but if we took a timeout he would always calm down. Chance did well with two 20 minute walks per day and seemed to sleep a lot of the day when he got that. Chance does have a deformity of his leg which causes him to walk with a limp, but I never noticed any discomfort and it doesn't seem to hold him back! Dogs: While we kept Chance and our dog separated the whole week for decompression, we did have one incident when I didn't fully close Chance's door and he quietly snuck downstairs (oops!) I found Chance and my resident dog calmly sniffing each other, which is surprising since my resident dog usually hates most dogs upon meeting! Chance handled it very well, had a loose body with no signs of discomfort, and it seems based on play group videos he could do well with another dog. I also think it'd be great for him to get his energy out with another playful dog, who could also show him the ropes! Overall Chance is just a young pup who is very loving and motivated to learn- he just needs the right person to guide him!! PER OFFSITE LOCATION: 4/19/25: Super sweet boy, loves to be around people. He does not like being in the crate at night and while in the crate becomes the destroyer of all things blanket. Will bark for a long time while in the crate because he wants to be around people. If he sees someone the barking will subside. 4/12/25: Chance is super sweet, definitely likes the company of people and will bark for a long time if he sees someone, because he wants to interact with them. I added his pills with his food and he ate it all up with no problem. We have all fallen in love with here at Cinnaminson!! 4/7/25: Chance is adjusting well to Market Street. He is eating, but it takes him a while to finish his food when he is in the window. When he is in the back, he gobbles it up. He is not a fan of loud noises, as evidenced by his shaking in the window when the construction crew started working today out front. He is a nervous boy who seeks comfort from humans whenever possible. He will not take his doxy with pill pockets. Staff put the pills in his mouth and rubbed his throat to get them down this morning, which he tolerated well. Will get him some wet food tomorrow morning to try instead.
