7/10/25 Update: Mia is in training and making small improvements on resource guarding and barking. She does extremely well when she is off leash meeting other off leash dogs. She is great in a kennel now but may have some initial separation anxiety if she’s kenneled in a space without another dog around. She “kennels up” on command now and plops down right away to work on her lick mat. I’ve exposed her to a lot of children outdoors now and she does fine with them. She seems to understand she needs to be calm and gentle. Not sure if she would be as calm indoors but I don’t have kids in my life here to test it out. It's super pixelated (see video bc they were SPRINTING!! I'm so happy we did the surgery. She's such an outdoorsy dog. Please consider contributing to Mia's GoFundMe here: https://gofund.me/97b97f02 6/17/25 Major update: Mia is now a TRIPOD. Her rear left leg was amputated. Sweet Mia came to our rescue after being abused and medically neglected by a man. Her ears were cropped with scissors, her ribs were showing and we quickly noticed she was missing most of her back left foot. She has gained 15 pounds in her foster home- she is such a foodie! Her foster noticed within the first week that she was only putting weight on that foot 50-70% of the time and she often licked and bit at it. She was put on oral supplements and medications to control the pain but this only partially improved her quality of life. Her x-ray confirmed arthritis and quite a few missing bones. Because of the complexity of her case, Mia was taken to 3 vets for their opinions. The decision was made that the most humane option was to amputate her leg so she can be pain free for the rest of her life. Mia is almost two weeks post op now and she’s making strides in her recovery! The tech team at the vet clinic say she’s a super star for her laser therapy sessions! We will never truly know what she had to endure as a puppy but we are just so grateful to have saved her! Mia is a wonderful one year old pup with so much love to give and we are so excited to see her thrive as a tripod! The surgery + post op needs are quite expensive so the rescue really needs help from the community. Please consider contributing to Mia's GoFundMe here: https://gofund.me/97b97f02 Meet Mia! She is a young German Shepherd, mixed with Australian Shepherd or Husky, who has already endured so much in her short life. Unfortunately the vet believes her ears were either cropped at home or chronic ear infections were left untreated. She’s missing most of her back left foot - likely an injury untreated from a lawnmower accident. Despite this abuse, Mia is a very sweet dog who just wants to give and receive love. -Knows how to sit, come, stay, shake, lie down, break (free to run or start eating) already! She is eager to learn and please you so I know she could be trained to do so much more!! -Enjoys cuddling, kisses, belly rubs, lounging and walks. She loves to stick her head out the window on car rides! Great on a leash for the dog walker and rides well in cars. Mia spends 1-2 hrs a day outside walking/sniffing but her needs can also be met with mental stimulation. Boy does this girl LOVE a sniffari! -Coexists well with cats and dogs but would prefer to be an only dog. She gets along very well with her foster brother (who is a Husky) and walks well the neighbors’ dogs outside. -Barks when she first meets you, but is veryyy food motivated so you can easily win her over with treats! -Working on kennel training. Has not been left alone much. Potty trained. -Loves bones, kongs, sniff mats, puzzles and lick mats. Mia is being fostered in Monument, Colorado and is available for a meet and greet! ##2350028##
