My story

What my friends at ACC say about me:I have lived with many cats at in my previous home, so I would likely do well in a multi-cat home.Demas tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. He will likely need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred or at least be well counseled in fearful cat behavior. Due to the behavior shown, he may not be a great fit for young children. Any home with older children prepared to adopt this cat should conduct a thorough interaction and endeavor to monitor this cat around their children to prevent these behaviors from being reinforced.I am looking for a home with a patient person.I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace.I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home.Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy!I am a cat that is in need of a lap! I can't wait to be your new lap cat.I would do best in a home without very tiny humans, although I could be open to older human children once I meet them.A volunteer writes: Demas has been wanting to make some friends, but what he really needed was for someone to listen to him, even when he didn't feel much like talking. I've been dutifully introducing myself to Demas since March but a hello from me and he'd hop up on his condo perch to consider me from a distance. Independent condo living just wasn't quite his style, but Demas has settled fantastically in our Free Roaming Room where he seems encouraged by the bright open windows and takes comfort in the company of other cats. Demas was brought to us from a home with many of them and while he's doing his own thing snuggled in the cubbies, Demas has a notably expansive view of friendship and the parallel play vibe in the cat room works for him. It's here that I've seen a different side of Demas. Proudly sitting up and stretching his neck into my hand, Demas met me halfway by softly leaning into me.
