Meet Midnight Moe! Midnight Moe is a shy, handsome boy who came out of his shell when he was previously at the shelter in the beginning of April. He was adopted but unfortunately was returned to the shelter due to financial concerns and concerns for their small dog. His previous owners noted a good family for him would give him lots of exercise, try a doggy daycare because it would be super fun for him, give him lots of love and a dog friend! Midnight Moe is ready to find a home to call his own! He previously lived with other dogs, and has had good interactions with other dogs through the fence. Are you able to open your heart and home to this sweet boy? Behavior: On 4/29 his owners noted: He can be protective of his family, but only sometimes. If not taken outside often can become a little destructive, if exercised, is super calm! He playfully tried to bite our small dog. He loves cuddles, long walks, VERY affectionate, can be very gentle with treats + toys, and has some anxiety. Medical: On 4/29 intake staff noted: "Bright, alert, responsive, friendly, allowed all handling. His ears were slightly waxy and he had minimal staining/tartar, moist pink gums." Previous stay at the beginning of April 2025: Videos: Meet Midnight Moe: https://youtube.com/shorts/Zb8HNSSe0KE?feature=share Midnight Moe: https://youtu.be/DzzCunrexRo Midnight Moe and Kent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjmH_C5V068 Midnight Moe and Kent2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVqM4UNScLw Midnight Moe and Rocky Rooster: https://youtu.be/sE3CF_GBdok Behavioral: Playgroup 4/22: Somewhat avoidant, defensive of his personal space as Bluey gathered near him to greet observers at the fence (low growl). Investigated Bluey a bit as they sat with each other under the pergola. Some wags in response to chatter from handlers. After Bluey left the yard, began wandering on his own, exploring, avoiding socializing with the other dogs. Reciprocated greetings from Wilt. Per volunteer 4/20: Midnight Moe was a handsome, floofy delight to have out on a sunny day. He really loves to cuddle. He was begging with his bright blue eyes for his handlers to help get him out of there. He had a nice fence meet with Togo Ono. Midnight Moe wasn’t interested in toys but really loved the sun and pets. He did not want to return to kennel, but we don’t blame the guy. We know he’s scared and hoping to leave asap. Per staff on 4/14: "Easy to remove from the kennel and walked without pulling on the leash. Met Kent, was initially growling with tail high and wagging, mouth closed, scraping the ground with his paws. As we walked together he got looser and began to have his ears back, soft panting with hoppy & choppy movements when interacting with Kent. He did a play bow at one point and they walked back to kennel together nicely." Per staff on 4/14: Due to improvement in behavior changing from blue to GREEN. May need to be re-evaluated for walk status when moved back to main kennels. He is thriving in the quiet space in ISO. Per staff on 4/13: Very obedient boy, will walk side by side with you. (on ISO board 4/13, unsure of day written) Per staff on 4/9: Midnight Moe did well for his PCR sample today! Took a couple times for nurse to leash him, he seemed a bit head shy but was up at the front of the kennel and came out nicely. Walked alright on the leash, every 5 feet or so, he got visibly nervous & overwhelmed at the sounds/movements in the main kennel area but was easy to coax to keep walking. In the room, he did a few drive by greetings before settling to come up and greet us. The first few times we reciprocated attention, he clammed up/shied away but eventually started accepting attention, gave a few kisses. He allowed all sample site collections (eyes/nose/mouth) with no restraint. Similar pattern walking back to kennel, returned with no issues. On 4/7 behavior evaluation staff noted: KNOWN HISTORY: owner surrender KENNEL PRESENTATION: He was standing in the kennel, quiet, wide eyes, darting back and forth when I presented the leash. LEASH SKILLS: Balks a lot walking in and out, will bite the leash a little but doesn't grab it, tail down or tucked, ears back, furrowed brown and wide eyes. In the pen was trying to find something to hide behind. HANDLING : Comes over to the handler when the handler crouches down. Lip licks when being touched with low wagging tail, solicits more most of the time when you stop touching him. Pet on his chest, head, touched his ears, checked his teeth, touched his front paws all with ears back, excessive panting, tai down not wagging. When attempting to pet his rear he tucked his tail and moved away. PLAY: no interest TOYS: no interest COLOR LEVEL & ANY RECOMMENDATIONS: Exp blue Dog meets: met Rocky Rooster and Blizzard. His behavior was the same with both. Tail goes up, not responsive at all about any leash pressure and pulled towards the fence with soft eyes, ears perked up, panting more softly with tongue hanging out to the side. When each dog moved towards him he moved away initially, coming forward at intervals when comfortable. Did a play bow to rocky rooster. Both meets were through the fence. Unable to check in due to behavior. Dog is very scared and refused to move while in the intake hallway. When I approached, he began to thrash and leash bite. Another ACA was called to put a second leash around the dog due to the leash biting. When any pressure is applied to leash around the neck the dog begins to thrash around jumping and biting at the leash. Meds were scheduled and dog was placed in kennel to calm down. On 4/7 staff noted: "Unable to check in due to behavior, tense in kennel, whale eyes and lip licking. Will try later with another staff member" On 4/6 behavior evaluation staff noted: KNOWN HISTORY: Owner surrender KENNEL PRESENTATION: Midnight Moe was on the front side of his kennel and ran to the back when I approached. I went on the backside and put my leash in for him to sniff and he came up and licked my hand curiously. I was able to put the leash overhead and pinned himself in the corner. I used a bit of leash pressure and he freaked out, biting the leash and thrashing around. I gave him some time to calm down before trying again. He continued to leash bite and thrash whenever I put leash pressure but I gave him lots of breaks and time. LEASH SKILLS: Does not pull HANDLING : In the room, Midnight Moe was so nervous and fearful, pinning himself near the door and laying down. He allowed me to bring him towards me and laid next to me. He tolerated light handling but was not the biggest fan. He would lip lick and hard stare at me, showing his discomfort. He took some cheese from me very gently and laid under the desk with me as I typed. He began coming out and peeking at people entering the room and did a hard bark and growl at an ACA. I redirected him and he hid back under the desk. I just gave him lots of space and time and he began moving out from under the desk and looked around. PLAY: Did not attempt TOYS: Did not attempt COLOR LEVEL & ANY RECOMMENDATIONS: Exp blue On 4/2 staff noted: Unable to check in due to behavior. On 4/2 owners noted: He is good, friendly, playful behavior personality. He is high energy likes to run around playground. He needs to work on crate training, has some accidents and needs leash training. He loves dog bone toys, is friendly with strangers, children, and is friendly with cats, loves to chase them. Ideal home would be one with a yard that he can play in. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week.
