My story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Scarlet, a Lhasa Apso mix. Not a lot is known about her history, except that she's spent a lot of her life having babies. She is so happy to be in moving on from that time in her life and is looking forward to having a loving home. She's a loving, cuddly, spunky little lady who really just wants some toys to play with and a lap to sit on. She’s also learned that she loves spending time outside. She will never be a dog for long walks or hikes. But she’s your girl if you are looking for someone to sit outside with you while you read a book.    She really wants to meet new people, but she still needs to remind herself that she is brave. Give her space to feel you out and she will be your new best friend. She’s getting braver every day and even went up to some new friends at the pet store after they asked if they could say hello. She gets along very well with other dogs and loves playing with them. Having not lived in a house before, she is still getting used to all the new things. She's been learning which things are toys and which are not. No phone cord is safe if the end is dangling within reach, but she otherwise does a good job of only playing with toys. She loves her blue chew toy and has started trying to tear apart squeaky toys. She loves her crate and can even be found hanging out there with the door open. Because she treats everything like a toy until she hears otherwise, it also helps keep her safe when unsupervised. She will bark for a bit if she can't see you or when you leave the house, but then she settles in . With this being said, we are requiring that she go to a home with NO shared walls (apartments, condos, townhomes...) because she was very stressed and barked in a home with shared walls.  She's had very few accidents in the house, but she is still learning about house training. She needs to be brought outside after every meal and right after waking up. At night, she sleeps well in her kennel, but will bark if she needs to go potty. All of her accidents have been immediately after eating or on the way to the door after letting her foster mom know she needs to go potty. She does well during the day on a schedule and does not have accidents in her crate for a full work day.  Scarlet's front legs are short and her body is long, so the logistics of getting down stairs are not in her favor. She will likely always need help with steps. S he can now manage three small steps into the house, but cannot do full sets or go down any stairs. She is perfectly happy being carried outside and getting a few extra cuddles in on the way. She's on the larger side for a Lhasa Apso (around 17 lbs.), but not too big to be carried. She does have a couple of minor health concerns. She has dry eye in one eye, which means her tear ducts don't produce enough moisture. She will require ointment twice daily for life. But she tolerates it well and it otherwise doesn't bother her much. She also has a 3/6 heart murmur. The vet suspects it is age related and it isn't causing any symptoms.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Interested in adopting this lovable animal? Please go to our website www.wagsmn.org and fill out an Adoption Application.  Once the application is processed, a Wags representative will contact you, answer any questions you may have, and set up a time/location for a meet and greet!  A home visit is required prior to adoption.  Thank you for choosing to adopt!
