Dog Name: Buttons Breed: Shih Tzu? Sex: Male (neutered) Age: 3-5 yrs Weight: 10 lbs Medical Needs: Blind and Heart Murmur Housebroken: Yes taken out on regular intervals he does his business Crate trained: Yes he sleeps all night in his crate and goes in fine when we leave the house. Good in the car: Yes he’s only had a few car trips but settles in his carseat well Good on a leash: Yes he loves to take walks and maneuvers the outdoors well Energy level: Low to Medium he’s pretty chill. He loves to lay on your lap and snuggle the most, loves laying in a dog bed but he will play with a toy (especially a squeeky one) and will follow us and our resident dogs around the yard. He has the cutest trot and enjoys a walk Need a fenced in yard: No he’d be fine on a leash/lead but he would love a yard to explore Dog Friendly: Yes he gets along fine with our 2 dogs If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No he would love getting all the attention Cat Friendly? IDK but he’d probably not even bother to notice Kid Friendly: Yes If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Around 10 yrs. since Buttons is blind a young child might not understand to approach him slowly and use their voice gently to let him know they are there. He does like kids, has enjoyed our grandkids (ages 3-13) they pet him and he sits on their lap but we have given instructions and monitored them closely Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Buttons was found as a stray, blinded with ulcerated corneas and had to have his eyes surgically removed before coming to GRR to be fostered. He spent his first month in a cone on lots of meds and went through surgical procedures three times. He was scared and a little grumpy at first but he’s made amazing strides. Buttons has become a loving, sweet, gentle, quiet boy that loves snuggles, cuddling on your lap and just being with his people. His blindness doesnt hold him back. He manages to get around the house and yard like a champ. He can go up and down the stairs to outside on his own. He gets so excited to see us in the morning or when we’ve been gone. His whole body gets happy. He eats his meals with fervency. There’s a sense of cautiousness you need to have to the awareness of his blindness but he is an amazing, smart, special little dog and will make a wonderful companion and addition to a family giving you so much love and enjoyment.
