Meet Sweet Pea!Sweet Pea was brought to the Queens Animal Care Center by NYPD's 75th Precinct after a community member dropped him off at the station, explaining they could no longer care for him due to a family medical emergency. No other information was provided, and no matches were found on any lost pet platforms.🐾 My ideal homeSweet Pea is looking for a calm, patient home where he can decompress and feel safe. He may need a little time to come out of his shell, but once he does, he enjoys affection and is happy to lean in for gentle pets. A quieter environment without too much commotion would help this sensitive guy thrive.👶 Good with kids?Sweet Pea would do best in a home with older, dog-savvy children (if any), who can respect his initial need for space and give him time to warm up.🐕 Good with other dogs?He was recently introduced to another dog at the shelter and was a bit nervous, giving look-aways and choosing to walk away after a brief greeting. He may be most comfortable as the only dog, or could potentially live with a calm, respectful dog after slow introductions.🐾 Leash MannersSweet Pea walks nicely on leash with only mild pulling. He may bark in the kennel, but outside, he's easy to handle and enjoys a relaxed stroll.🩺 Overall healthEstimated to be about 7 years old, Sweet Pea is in good health with a normal weight and coat. He does have Stage III dental disease, which is common in older dogs and manageable with a dental cleaning. He is not yet neutered.🧠 Behavior determination: Level 2Sweet Pea is considered a Level 2 dog, meaning he may be initially fearful but warms up with gentle handling and time. In the shelter, he's shown he can be affectionate, calm, and even knows "sit"! His main challenge is being a little timid in new situations, especially around the kennel.🎉 One fun factSweet Pea has a sweet tooth-for chicken jerky! He'll gently take treats from your hand, and it's one of the easiest ways to win him over.Sweet Pea may have come to us without a known history, but he's more than ready to start his next chapter-with someone like you. 💙**Where to Adopt:**Sweet Pea is waiting to meet you at the Queens Animal Care Center.
