My story

Meet Elmer! After spotting Elmer running loose in the street, a Good Samaritan kindly stepped in, safely catching him and bringing him to Santa Barbara County Animal Services, so his family could find and reclaim him. Sadly, no one came for sweet Elmer, so on April 13th, he made the long trip to become a Frosted Face. He is estimated to be 13 years old, and he weighs 11 lbs. Elmer went on a two-week Frosted Fling, so we could learn what he's like in a home setting. His Fling Mom reports: "Elmer is a very sweet boy that wants to be part of the family. At first, he was shy and stayed in his soft sided crate. I let him have his space and he came out when he wanted. After about a week, Elmer was hanging out with me and other dogs more. He asked to be up on the couch with us. He would look up the stairs, since he would see us go up there. I started bringing his crate up at night so he could sleep in the room with us. He seemed to like that. Elmer will need a patient family to give him some time to adjust. He would be fine on his own or with other dogs. He wasn’t bothered by my dogs and does great in the play yard at FFF. He is cat and rabbit tested as well. Here is some additional info: 🐶Sleeping/naps- I have two crates for my dogs and a soft sided crate I used for Elmer. He would go in any of the three crates throughout the day on his own. Maybe he had a crate before or maybe he just felt safe. I have multiple beds around the house and he would lay in those as well. In the evening he would snuggle on the couch and snoozed until bed time. He would jump off if he had to potty. At night, he slept in his crate. 🐶Eating/Treats- He got excited with the other dogs when it was time to eat. I gave him a mixture of kibble, air dried and canned food. He wasn’t picky. He loved the treats I gave him as well. He didn’t have issues eating around my dogs or if they came up to him while eating. He did not try to eat from their bowl while they were eating. He was good with all that. 🐶Exercise-Elmer loved going on walks. He does not like a slip lead. He let me put a normal clip leash on and off we went. He enjoyed sniffing and just cruising around. Other dogs on the walk didn’t phase him. He enjoyed walking around the backyard as well. He would stare at the back door when he was ready to go inside. 🐶Car Rides- he was great in the car. When I first brought him home, I had him in the soft crate. It was tough getting him out. That is when he would sometimes snap. So I put a bed on the seat and he laid on that fine. I was also able to get him in and out with ease. I provided a video of that. When we got home or to our destination, he always got excited and looked out the window. Overall, Elmer was a great house guest. With some patience and learning what he likes and doesn’t like, I think he would be an excellent addition to your family."
