** If you are interested in adopting Henry, please fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ ** Meet Henry! Henry is a joyful little guy with a big heart and a bounce in his step! This 1-year-old Boston Terrier / Chihuahua mix weighs just 15 pounds but brings a whole lot of love and personality wherever he goes. Henry had been with his person since he was just six months old. She initially took him in to dogsit, but his original owner never returned. So, she gave Henry a home and loved him deeply for the next six months. However, she was disabled, couldn't walk him, and in her later 70's and it became clear that she could no longer keep up with Henry’s youthful energy and playful spirit. With a heavy heart and through tears, she made the difficult decision to surrender him to a shelter in New Mexico, hoping he could find a new home where he would truly thrive. From Henry's foster: * * * * "Here is an update and some notes on Henry! He is totally house broken, zero accidents or marking in the house. He is great with other dogs and plays and snuggles and shares the home wonderfully with my dog! He also LOVES people!!!!! He wiggles and says hello to anyone we pass on walks, and loves my teenage boys. He is very affectionate! Loves cuddling. 10/10 cuddle rating. Really sweet personality! Everyone likes him. He is doing totally fine with our busy, loud family environment. Our 13 year old had 4 friends over for a birthday party sleepover, so lots of people bustling around the house and talking loudly, and Henry did great. He does pretty good on leash, but he will try to chase squirrels and bunnies on walks. He is currently a medium paced walker. He does a little huff if he sees another dog out on walks, but he's a total faker because when they get close enough he stops and instead starts to wiggle and makes friends with them. He is very treat motivated. I taught him to truly 'sit' easily. He is getting along great with my dog, lots of playing followed by lots of napping, then repeat. There was one small disagreement between the two of them over a bully stick, but they've been totally fine sharing toys, beds, etc - the two of them even having fun playing tug with toys. He seems unfamiliar with cats. Hard to tell if he could learn to be ok with cats or not just yet. Possible, but I'm not sure. He's doing fine with my chickens who are separated but visible. Sometimes he is interested in them, but not hyper focusing on them and easily distracted away. Chases squirrels in the yard. He has been sleeping in the crate like a pro. The crate faces my bed and he is fine being in the crate when he knows I'm nearby. He even goes in the open crate to lay down in his bed when I'm just doing things upstairs. The couple of times we left the dogs alone he was left free roaming and did fine as far as I can tell, no potty accidents or destruction. I tried using a puppy pen when he first arrived because we had to go out for a couple hours that evening, but he climbed right out. With that information, he very likely, he would be able to climb out of those 3-ish-ft high chain link type fences that some yards have. He hasn't shown any signs of trying to escape my yard, but I have a 6-ft fence and I have never left him alone out there. I sit out back while the dogs play in the yard so he knows I am right there. I have a feeling his escape artist tendencies are brought on by feeling left behind and trying to go find his people. That said, he should never ever be left unattended in anyone's yard, and can NOT go to a home that has a doggy door. Bonus things that I love about him: He looks like a big dog, but he's SO little!!! I feel like his photos don't do justice on how small he is! He's chill enough to be held like a baby - he totally passes the dangle test! He has a silly, adorable face! He has extremely soft ears. He has adorable pink toe beans and a cool spotted belly." * * * * We'd like to place Henry in a home where he'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and love. A (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement group training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence for a young guy whose self-esteem will fly high while he masters his skills. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area. Henry has been fully vetted, he is in great health, up to date on his vaccines, and neutered. Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial. Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year. If you are interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ . **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application.
