My story

Meet Drift — Our Goofy Little Glide Machine! Drift may sound like the name of a racecar driver, and honestly… it fits. This 8-month-old Frenchie came to us from Riverside County Shelter after being surrendered by his former owner due to IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease). But don’t let the diagnosis fool you — this guy still knows how to party. Sure, sometimes his booty drops and he scoots around like a chunky little Roomba, but then he’s right back up on all fours, zooming around like nothing happened. He’s got a built-in drift mode, and honestly? It’s kind of his signature move. Drift is a joyful, resilient little goofball with a huge appetite and an even bigger heart. He loves toys, tug-of-war with his bestie Kit, and every single snack you’re willing to share. He loves tug of war with his best friends Pinkey and Kit they play nonstop in the yard. Drift has the puppy power play with a lot of naps in between. Foster update: According to his foster mom, “When he comes out of his crate in the morning, it’s like he’s revving up his engine just to make it over that little bar at the bottom of the crate — trying not to get his butt stuck in it. Once he’s out, he’s full throttle, ready to eat and run outside to play with his friends!” He thrives on grass and carpet, where he can really dig in and get a good grip with those determined little toes. “He’s just got a huge heart and wants to be loved,” says his foster mom. “He really is such an easy guy — I hope someone gives him the chance he deserves.” Therapy at home: Drift is currently enjoying splashy water therapy sessions in his foster mom’s pool and is taking Gabapentin for comfort — but he may not need it long-term. We can’t predict the future of his mobility, but we can tell you this: he’s happy, hilarious, and full of love. Ongoing Medical: Drift has what we call IVDD 1, one of his vertebrae's his not shaped correctly. He does not have a ruptured disc and he gets around great standing on his back legs all the time. Drift plays nonstop with his friends, sometimes to much since he is a puppy and we put him on crate rest for a few hours, or just let him have the yard with more chill dogs so he isn't playing so hard and has a break to lay around. He is not incontinent and is on a great schedule with potty breaks but will leave the occasional pee trail, if foster mom is not in time in the morning. If you are not familiar with IVDD please do your research and make sure this is something you are willing to take on for this rest of his life. Training aspects: He’s potty trained, though he sometimes leaks a bit of pee when overly excited (which, let’s be real, just means you’re his favorite person). He controls his bowels and prefers to do his business outside like the good boy he is. As we are still learning about Drift and has only been with us a month and a half he is doing well. The only issue we really have is finding a dedicated foster for this guy! He may drift, but he’s steady when it comes to love. Drift is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped; his adoption donation fee is $800.00. You can apply for Drift on our website and our adoption process is there as well.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Drift, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
