My story

** $105 in pledges for the rescue that pulls! ** Fiesty ACCT-A-30907 is a 7-year-old spayed female who has really been through a lot over the course of her life. She was initially surrendered to the shelter in 2018 for behavior, but was reclaimed by her owner when she was at risk of euthanasia due to her behavior in shelter. She was recently surrendered again as she had untreated wounds on her neck that the owner said they couldn't treat due to her behavior (she was "attacking" per the owner). Since coming back to the shelter, Fiesty has been incredibly stressed in her kennel, and has been growling and hissing. She seemed to really hate a noisy environment, so she was recently moved to an office to see if that would help her. Fiesty has already shown herself to be a different cat when she has a quieter space. Since being in an office, she has relaxed significantly, but can get agitated by loud noises. She would really benefit from a quiet foster or adoptive home where she can have lots of time to decompress and show her true personality. Behavior: On 5/17 staff noted: “Fiesty will come up and rub herself against my legs and feet, but if I look at her and talk to her, she will hiss and then walk away. She did allow another staff member to pet her while she was sleeping, although she did appear to be sleeping very deeply.” On 5/17 staff noted: “Fiesty is a different cat out of her kennel! She has been moved to an office, and already seems much more relaxed. She seems to really enjoy the quieter setting. There was some initial growling, but she climbed up on my desk and sat near me for hours. Today she seems even more relaxed and is even sleeping peacefully.” On 5/5 staff noted: “Spent a few minutes at her kennel today and while she was as vocal as ever, she did begin to eat while I was there (grumbling as she ate) and momentarily tolerated my hand in the vicinity of her. Her pupils were less dilated than previously and she did return one slow blink.” On 4/29 staff noted: “Fiesty is very talkative (hissy and growly) and lets you know how she is feeling. The busier it is in the adoptions room, the more upset she gets. She is interested in treats and cat nip but there is too much going on for her to give anything a chance. Fiesty would benefit from a quiet space, where she can interact on her own terms.” On 4/27 staff noted: “Does not allow you to get close, cannot open up kennel door without her hissing, growling, lunging.” On 4/27 staff noted: “Would recommend no kids or very cat savvy kids who can respect her space.” Medical: On 4/24 exam Doctor noted: “Ambulatory x4 on limited assessment in feral den, sedated orthopedic exam unremarkable; obese. Bright, alert, responsive. Unable to be handled; hissing, swatting and lunging in feral den. Sedated exam performed. Adult dentition with scant tartar, overall in great condition. Abdomen had NSF, but difficult to palpate well due to body condition. There is ~4-5cm area of superficial ulceration and crusting on left side neck, additional superficial abrasion on right cheek below eye and superficial abrasions and hair loss on forehead. Coat on rest of body is healthy with no lesions. Assessment: Superficial skin wounds - r/o traumatic vs allergic skin disease (atopy vs food allergy vs other) vs other Obese Plan: All wounds were clipped and cleaned under sedation and SSD applied. Due to behavior, unlikely to tolerate any ongoing topical treatment. Gave injection of Convenia to facilitate healing. Rx gababentin 50mg PO BID x7 days to facilitate transition to shelter. If allergic in origin, skin lesions may persist or worsen despite treatment and additional management or food trial may be necessary. Medically ok to make available, placed waiver for skin.” ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details. If you are a rescue interested in pulling this animal, please email our lifesaving team, or visit here if you are not currently a rescue partner: https://acctphilly.org/acct-philly-love-local-partnership-program/ Confirmed placement is considered a confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent. All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia, as the only open-intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia. ACCT Philly's Pennsylvania kennel license number is 08313.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Fiesty, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
