What my friends at ACC say about me:Sunbeam is an adult cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. He is apprehensive of people and while showing no aggressive behaviors, he does attempt to flee or avoid human contact. It is difficult to predict if he will respond to socialization but we recommend offering high value treats and food to help build a positive association to humans. Please be mindful that older cats will require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.Hello!· My history is a mystery and we're still learning about my personality. I've been very nervous in the Care Center and I may be the same way in a home environment. Hopefully I can have time to relax and get more comfortable around people, but there's also a chance I may just prefer my independence. That's okay too! · Over time, I may get used to one or two people who will be allowed to touch me. I may choose to hang out near you, or sleep on the bed with you at night.· I would be a great choice for people with a quiet household, who want to make a difference for an individual cat. I will require patience and understanding.· I will not be a good choice for busy homes, including those with children.· I may be a fine choice for situations where you don't have a lot of time to devote to a pet - most kitties like me do not need or want much attention from people.A volunteer writes: Progress isn't always linear and can even be awkward at times, but it's all worth celebrating. Meet Sunbeam who you might see peering out from his cubby door, perhaps a bit peculiarly as he curiously stares at everyone but we love that about him and we'll get to that later. The first time I met Sunbeam, he sat with his tail wrapped around his face like a big, fluffy scarf. It was like he was trying to make it through the day without too many people noticing him. This seems worlds away from the Sunbeam I see at the front of his cubby, peeking his head around to see what everyone else is doing as he kind of shuffles his paws and hopes he'll get invited too. Sunbeam may not be one to leap into your arms but he certainly wants to be included. With paws spread wide, he alternated between playing tug of war with a treat and nuzzling the side of his condo. Sunbeam was found abandoned in a building with many other cats and settling into shelter life has taken some time. He may not have had many opportunities to meet new people, but having been with us since April, he's really working hard to try. Primary Color: Orange Tabby Weight: 11.375 Age: 7yrs 2mths 1wks
