My story

Hello Canada!  My name is Dewey and I can't wait to become a resident of Vancouver on May 19th!  Let me tell you a bit about myself: Breed: Shiba Inu / Terrier mixAge: 9 weeksGender: MaleWeight: 14lbs / 6.5kgHeight: TBDCountry of origin: IndiaHighlights: Friendly with other dogs and humans/kids, playful young puppy, energetic, adorable, sweet-natured, curious Meet Me, the Little Survivor! At just 2 months old, I’ve already shown the world what I’m made of. My life started off a bit rough—I was found alone by the side of a busy freeway in India when I was 5 weeks old. I had suffered head injuries and couldn’t walk. Luckily, some kind-hearted people rushed me to a veterinary hospital, where I received life-saving emergency care. Thanks to their quick thinking and the medical attention I received, I’m now fully recovered and ready to find my forever home! Even though I’ve had a tough start, I’m a cheerful little guy who loves meeting people, especially kids! I get along well with other dogs and am excited to make new friends in my new home. I’ve learned that not all humans are kind, but I’ve been so lucky to have been rescued by some truly amazing people who have shown me nothing but love and kindness. I can’t wait to start the next chapter of my life in Vancouver (or beyond!).  If you already have a dog(s) or other animals I think it would be fun to live with some other furry friends! My caretakers in India say I’m a super happy pup who just loves life and everyone I meet. I do have one little quirk—I’m not a huge fan of being picked up just yet, and I might squirm a bit if you try. But I expect to get more comfortable with it as I grow and get used to the feeling. If you’re looking for a resilient, joyful little buddy who’s ready to fill your home with love and happiness, I might just be your perfect match! I am coming to Vancouver on May 19th so am hoping I will be able to go straight into my new family's home upon my arrival! I am too young yet to be spayed/neutered, but I am vaccinated and microchipped. Spay/neuter will be the responsibility of the adopter and is required for my adoption to be finalized. My adoption fee is $800 CAD plus applicable taxes. This includes my transportation to Canada, if I am able to be accompanied by a flight volunteer directly to Vancouver. Best Home: With loving humans dedicated to helping me learn, trust, and grow. I'd love to explore nature trails and play with other dogs!  If your home already has a dog(s) I would love to meet them and have a playmate. Energy Level: high/moderate I get along with:Dogs: yesCats: unknownKids: yes Fears: none observed. Please be patient assisting me in my transition. Training: In progress, please be prepared to train meLeash skills: In progress, please be prepared to train me.House trained: Please help me learn. Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue. Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live. Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.Basic training should be taken seriously but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you. The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs. Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if the dog is shown to be good with children we will approve homes with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website. While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or  Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs. You will NOT be charged the passenger fee in addition to this. ##2368041##
