My story

Sweet Josie was a hard nut to crack as we had no background on her beyond knowing she lived with 13 other dogs, mostly outside, before a fire forced her owner out. Scared and not well, Josie needed a lifeline. She has been fixed, is wormed and all up to date on shots. She is crate-trained and housebroken. Now the bad news. Josie is heartworm positive, and always will be. At the ripe old age of 9, SOS has chosen to do the slow kill method with her. We fear at her age the traditional method would be too tough on her. And there is always the possibility of not surviving the treatments at her age as they are very painful and hard on the poor dog. We will provide a lifetime of medication for her to continue to keep the disease at bay. Josie is looking for a non-active, low-key retirement home, preferably not with a lot of young children or people activity. Josie has attached herself to the foster like a Velcro dog. Initially, you may need to work through some of her anxiety with activity and strangers. She does enjoy the peace and quiet. Josie doesn't need strenuous exercise. A simple slow walk in the park or up and down a street is all that is needed. Just enough to keep her active, but not any overexertion. The foster has found that these minimal walks help keep her anxiety level low. She walks very calmly on a leash with no pulling, and knows when you stop walking that she should too. She also loves car rides. While walking in the park, Josie ignores other people and could care less about a dog walking past. After being in foster for two months, Josie still has no interest in toys. She has great house manners – no getting up on furniture or counters, and she does not jump on people. Josie has had a hard life before coming to SOS, and it is now her time to lay back and take it easy. If you are looking for a buddy to hang out on the porch on those summer nights, Josie is your girl! Her adoption fee is $50 fully vetted and we will provide a lifetime of heartworm medication for her to continue to keep the disease at bay. Save Ohio Strays does not have a shelter. Our dogs are integrated into their foster homes who can tell you all about them to make the transition into your home informative and supportive. Our first step to adopt is always our online application at saveohiostrays.org. Save Ohio Strays does NOT claim or guarantee any breeds given in this description. These are best guess descriptions for breed. SOS NEVER ships pets and will not adopt out to a driving radius greater than 3 hours from Medina, Ohio. Our animals are cared for in foster homes and the first step in our adoption process is to fill out an adoption application at the link on our website at: www.saveohiostrays.org.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Josie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
