Sheila’s story starts on a chilly February evening when she was spotted running near our back parking lot alongside another dog. While her buddy was caught quickly, Sheila ran off into the cold night. When we arrived at work the next morning, there she was, waiting nearby, tired and unsure. It took some gentle convincing to get her leashed, and even then, she was hesitant to come with us. We carried her, snug in a crate, to a quiet kennel where she could finally rest, warm up, and begin to trust. Now, a couple of months later, Sheila has blossomed into a gentle, affectionate young pup. We believe she is about 1 year old. Though she still has a cautious streak, she walks on a leash with growing confidence and melts into the laps of the people she knows and loves. She craves closeness, often pushing into you as she much as can, soaking up every bit of comfort and connection. Sheila isn’t quite ready to be best friends with every dog she meets. She wasn’t interested in reconnecting with the one she arrived with, but we think, with time and the right match, she may enjoy a canine companion. With people, she may need a little time to warm up, and she sometimes greets new friends with a charming mix of full body wiggles and a submissive grin. If you’re someone who understands the beauty of a shy dog’s trust, Sheila just might be your girl. She’s looking for a patient, loving home where she can continue to build her confidence and feel safe by your side. If interested, please fill out the preliminary at odas.org/canine before you visit.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Sheila, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
