My story

Meet Racer, who is hoping to race right towards your home and your heart! Sweet Racer loves his people and enjoys playing and leaning up against them for pets. Racer was found as a stray by police and transported to the open intake shelter. Racer can sometimes be hesitant upon meeting you but with some time you are sure to be the best of friends! He can sometimes tend to fixate on dogs but has attended our play group and does well with other dogs who have a rough and rowdy play style! Racer is now available for adoption at ACCT Philly. You can meet him any day from 10am-6pm! Videos: Racer in play yard: https://youtube.com/shorts/Vd5JE1TI3RM?feature=share Racer fence meet: https://youtube.com/shorts/kLD027Ea1WI?feature=share Meet Racer: https://youtube.com/shorts/6Hyh0vgPv64?feature=share Behavior: Per volunteer 5/11: Racer is very sweet and playful! He’s not particularly into treats, but he'll chase a toy around, and *sometimes* he'll even bring it back. There aren't a ton of brain cells rolling around in that big noggin, but he's just happy to have a good time with you, especially if it means sitting on your lap and getting lots of pets. He's still learning some manners, so he got a bit jumpy when playing, but was easy to calm down and redirect! He knows sit and takes treats incredibly gently. We saw a few dogs through the fence and he got very excited, giving a surprising little scream to show how eager he was to say hi (we never got that far, so not sure how he would do with interaction). In summary, if anyone has ever wanted a 2-for-1 weighted blanket and shower, Racer's your boy - he's happy to sit directly on top of you and lick your face clean for as long as you'll let him! He'll bring so much goofiness and love to someone's life! Per volunteer 5/11: I enjoyed spending time with Racer! Such a fun pup! He loved running in the yard and also just loved just leaning in for back scratches. He was so easy to leash and coming out and going back to his kennel. Per Volunteer 5/7/25: Racer is lots of of fun! He has a lot of energy and enjoyed walking around the yard. He would lean against me for pets. There were dogs on the other side of the fence and he did fixate on them, biting at the fencing and trying to get under it. Once they left the area, he was a lot calmer! Per Staff 5/7/25: Play group notes: High Arousal, Hackles raised, overall good greetings, SM, pushy at times Per Staff 5/6/25: Play group notes: Rough Rowdy, good gate greeting after some reactivity, concern led to dog being muzzled and was very high energy, would like to try "Racer" again with a better match of a yard Per Staff 5/5/25: Kennel Presentation Easy to leash/social Found Racer on his kuranda bed - he stood, gave soft eye contact, gentle low-mid wags, and stepped off his bed as I looped him easily. Easy exit. Leash Skills Pulls Minimally On Leash Left slack in the leash for the majority of the walk. Pulled minimally when interested in smells, people seen across the yard, etc. Checked in occasionally. Was able to return to kennel without issue - hopped right in, slipped lead right off. Handleability Loose/Allows all handling Soft and affectionate - showed some appeasement behaviors for the first few pats (staying still, lip licks, ears back, averting gaze) but kept up a mostly relaxed posture. Over time would approach of his own choice and began leaning heavily in for pets. Tolerated and appeared to appreciate all-over handling: head, ears, legs, back, hind. Tag Did not attempt Toys Interest but does not take possession Enjoyed chasing after several throw toys, but never took possession. Color Level Green Slow approach may be warranted at first, but Racer shows every indication of adjusting well to his new environment, and his injuries don't appear to affect his handleability. Shouldn't pose an issue to new handlers. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details. If you are a rescue interested in pulling this animal, please email our lifesaving team, or visit here if you are not currently a rescue partner: https://acctphilly.org/acct-philly-love-local-partnership-program/ Confirmed placement is considered a confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent. All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia, as the only open-intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia. ACCT Philly’s Pennsylvania kennel license number is 08313

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Racer, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
