Meet Spud! Spud is an estimated 9yo Staffordshire Bull Terrier who was found stray by our local Animal Control. He quickly became a favourite with shelter staff, and often hung out in the office with staff manning the front desk! He's a happy go lucky guy who loves everyone he meets, has the wiggliest booty, and the biggest smile that just lights up his whole face! Spud may be a small guy at only 37lbs, and he may be senior, but don't let that fool you! Staffordshire bull terriers are energetic and drivey dogs, and Spud is true to his breed. He loves fetch, loves puzzle toys, loves destroying stuffies and loves his walks! This active guy also walks very well on leach, so he's a pleasure to include on all adventures! After a good amount of exercise, Spud is happy to snuggle up to his favourite person on the couch and snore the afternoon away! Spud is a smart guy, but his obedience could use some work. He is generally well behaved, but does know how to push open the cupboard doors, and pull out the basket with his toys. He can be stubborn at times, but will do anything for a treat! Spud is currently crated when his foster parents aren't home, and is well behaved in the crate. Spud loves his people and always wants to be around them! He can let out soft whines when he feels he isn't being included, or when begging for food. Spud isn't a big barker, but has barked a couple times for attention, or when he is crated and wants to be included. He takes corrections well and rarely barks, but his soft whines are just part of what makes this little potato Spud! Spud is very affectionate and loving. He wants to be with his favourite person at all times, preferably in their lap! He needs some work to learn it's ok to be independent at times, like when his people are driving, eating dinner, or in the bathroom. He wants to be right on top of his people anytime they are on the couch or hanging out on the Muskoka chairs on the porch! Spud is being fostering in a home with 3 other male dogs and some chickens! Spud is friendly and well behaved with other dogs. He prefers calmer, playful and easy going companions, and can be intimidated by high energy boisterous play, but deflects energy and acts appropriately when he is uncomfortable. He listens to his older, grumpy foster brothers growls to be left alone, and doesn't crate conflict. He isn't a fan of when his youngest foster brother tries to steal his ball, and prefers independent fetch games with his people. Spud was initially over aroused when he saw the chickens, but is now learning to ignore them. SPUD FIRST IMPRESSIONS: - Good with dogs, easy going/neutral -Untested with cats -Medium prey drive for chickens- but is learning to ignore them. -Untested with kids, likely fine - Good with all people, including strangers -Medium/ high energy (for his age) - Good in crate - Excellent on leash - Good in car (although sometimes tries to get on drivers lap) -Very affectionate, loves to snuggle and beg for attention -Loves to follow his people everywhere and be right beside them! -Somewhat vocal. Spud will quietly whine for attention or if he's bored. He will occasionally bark for attention, but has stopped that with corrections. He also snores loud for a little guy! - Not particularly obedient, but will do commands for treats -Off leash, Spud likes to stick around his people, but doesn't always listen to recall. Long line recommended -Stubborn, mostly about snuggling and touching his people -Playful, loves fetch, ripping apart toys, and some tug! Needs work: -Jumping up -Whining for attention -General obedience Spud is a lot of dog in a little package! Don't let his size or age fool you, this little potato is full of beans and ready for adventures! Please email molsonsfosterfriends@gmail.com for an application!
