My story

Meet Little Mr. Shamrock! 🍀 This adorable 2-year-old, 9-pound Chihuahua is on the hunt for his forever home. With his big personality and even bigger heart, Shamrock is full of charm—and just a little bit of spunk. Originally found as a stray, Shamrock was adopted and then returned, eventually making his way to Broken Tail. He’s new to his foster home, but he’s already showing his true colors: playful, affectionate, and yes, a little bit stubborn (classic Chihuahua style!). Shamrock loves toys, enjoys spirited zoomies in a fenced yard, and gets along well with the resident dogs. He’s full of energy, but also knows how to settle down and snuggle up next to his foster mom when it's time to relax. Be warned: when Shamrock has something to say, he says it loud and proud—especially if you disappear upstairs without him. Because of this, apartment living might not be the best fit unless your neighbors are fans of vocal performances. He walks great on a leash and would thrive with someone who enjoys daily strolls. A secure, fenced yard is ideal, as this curious little guy has a knack for finding adventure if given the chance. Shamrock isn’t particularly food-motivated, so his ideal person should understand the unique Chihuahua mindset—independent, loyal, and always entertaining. Did we mention he is housebroken? But be aware, he can be a little trip hazard, staying near your legs when you walk in your house. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.
