My name is Merc and I’m looking for my forever home! I came to my foster home here in Evansville, IN, as a stowaway! My mom is a Shiba Inu who was a stray with a belly full of puppies. After we were born in October, SIRA tested us and learned that our dad was a Beagle/Coonhound mix. I am 19 lbs of good boy! I am a calm, laid-back puppy who loves belly rubs and cuddles. I have my goofy side, but I’m mostly just sweet. I am house trained and know how to use a pee pad if needed. When foster mom g, I am quiet in my crate or playpen. I don’t destroy anything. My favorite thing here is having other dogs to play with and keep me company. I’m gentle and never show aggression to them. There is a cat here and I’m friendly and respectful – I never pester. I like older kids – little kids scare me because I’m not used to them. I love car rides. Foster mom says I’m a smart boy because I have learned commands like “sit” and “lay.” I'm learning about leash walks too! Loud noises outside can scare me, but with practice and a familiar routine, I’ll get the hang of it. I am a healthy boy, neutered and vaccinated. I have a bump on my belly called a histiocytoma. It sounds scary, but it’s harmless and should clear up soon. I had a rough start to life – an infection, kidney problems, and anemia! But I’m healthy now! As a result, I’m calmer than most puppies my age. I’m also shy, like my Shiba mama. New environments and loud noises like thunder scare me. My perfect forever home will have time to spend with me and a securely fenced yard and a nice dog to keep me company. No small kids, please, but older ones are fine. I’ll do best in a home that doesn’t share walls with neighbors, since I can be vocal at mealtime. If you understand shy/skittish dogs, that would be awesome. If you live in the Midwest and want a sweet, snuggly boy like me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet! I’d like that very much.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Merc, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
