My story

Meet Brown Crown! This happy boy is ready to bounce and wiggle his way into your heart. He was surrendered to the shelter when his owner was moving and unable to take him with them. His owner described him as very friendly and playful. In the shelter Brown Crown has been just that! His ideal day would be spent playing tug of war with his people. Brown Crown can be jumpy and a little strong on the leash but he is handler oriented and shown off great listening skills so far so he's ready to learn some manners! I had him out the other day and he was great however, I think the shelter is getting to him. Once we got to the ISO yard and he got excited / wanting to play, he started leash biting and putting on the brakes to go inside. Unfortunately, I didn't have a rope toy with me to redirect him, so another volunteer came out and helped me calm him down and get him back inside with a 2nd leash because he wouldn't budge. Once we had him on both leashes he was easy to get back inside. 6/9/2025: Volunteer Note: Volunteer was still back in ISO getting another dog ready and another volunteer called him saying that she was having a hard time with BC so he went out to help. BC was pretty aggressively leash biting trying to play tug and basically running circles around her. He was able to calm BC a little bit and then soothed him with some slow pets on his head ears and he relaxed enough to drop the leash. The volunteer then double leashed BC with his leashand we walked him together back to the kennel, but he carried the first leash the entire way. Per staff 6/8: Volunteer called for help over the walkie due to leash biting. When Ruby and I arrived he was tugging on the leash, but occasionally jumped up at us or the volunteer. Ruby got her leash on so he could hold one and she could walk him using another. Held leash in mouth but didn’t really jump on the walk back. Went into kennel relatively easily. per day trip 6/1: Brown Crown was the sweetest boy, was eager to walk but walked well on his leash with minimal pulling. He didn't show any interest in trash, other animals, or people walking by. He already knows sit and listened well. He was a little anxious in the car so we sat in the back with him to help keep him calm on the way to the park. He really enjoyed pulling on his leash like a rope toy, so we think he would have a lot of fun playing tug of war with someone! Was super sweet and loving and loved eating his chicken nuggets to end our day out. per volunteer 5/31: When I arrived at the kennel, Brown Crown was standing at the front. He had a mid level tail wag. I put the leash in his kennel and he stuck his head right in. BC pulls moderately to strongly on leash. He’s very interested in sniffing outside. He’s a bit jumpy. He does know sit but takes him a little bit to focus enough to sit. He takes treats gently. In the yard, he had a high tail and stuff body. He mostly sniffed around. He came when called and jumped up on the handler looking for attention. In the eval room, BC allowed handling he let me pet him all over. I offered him a soft toy and he immediately grabbed it. He played around with the toy whipping it around. He did not freely give up the toy or trade it. He did allow us to touch the toy and even brought it around the room to show everyone. When he did release the toy, he would follow it when thrown. Playgroup 5/31: First in the yard. Loose, handler-oriented. Immediately became barrier-reactive when other dogs approached to prep for gate greetings: posture forward, alert, growling/snarling, hard barking at Jax and Dior. Removed from yard. Per staff that brought Brown Crown to playgroup 5/30: 0 issues across the board (leashing, walking thru kennel, no problematic shyness, jumpiness, mouthiness) except for slight issues (pulling) on leash. Medium energy. Playgroup 5/30: Steerable with spray bottle and shake can. At gate: high tail wags, ears back, one or two shakeoffs, handler-oriented. In yard, tolerated greetings, was fairly independent, wandering off on his own to sniff and explore. Gave King a correction when he was getting too physical. Fairly handler-oriented throughout, perking up (mid-high wags, loose face, ears up) when checking in with handlers. Became increasingly barrier reactive when Jax appeared and was being prepped for gate greetings (alert barking, tense). Removed from the yard shortly afterward.
