My story

Remember Bobby? Well, it turns out his name is actually Taco… That’s right, his owners reached out to the shelter to let them know that he did have people and that his name is Taco. However, they said they would not be reclaiming him. How sad is that? You find out your dog is in a very over crowded, small, rural shelter where euthanizing for space is a possibility, and you chose to leave him there? Taco is nervous about people coming up to his kennel, and because of that, he barks and tries to look and sound tough. Don’t let him fool you though. He is just putting on a show to try to make the things making him nervous back off. The secret to his affection is to offer him some treats so that he can see you aren’t actually scary. Once you get him out of his kennel, he is as sweet as can be. Unfortunately, dogs like this tend to get overlooked because people assume the dog is “aggressive” or “mean.” The sad reality is that terms like this greatly hinder dogs’ chances of making it out of the shelter. Taco is not mean. He is not aggressive. He is fearful when in a kennel. There is a huge difference. All we are asking is that someone give him a chance. He’s already won over our volunteers. Can he win you over too? This boy is stunning! His markings are really something, and he has eyes that will melt your heart. He is pretty decent on leash, and he knows sit. Taco is 59 pounds and is probably around 2 years old. Taco is a dog that will make an amazing pet with some patience and time for him to gain confidence in a new environment. His previous owners did say that he has been known to dig out of a fence, so it is important to supervise him if he is in a fenced in yard. Please share Taco! If you are interested in meeting him, stop by the shelter during their open hours. Taco’s people let him down and chose to just leave him…. He deserves better.
