My story

Petal is an approximately 3-year-old spayed Female Maltese weighing in at 7 pounds Petal is from an at capacity shelter in QC Medical: UTD with vetting Petal is good small dogs, unsure of big dogs Good with cats: will chase, so best to say "no cats" Good with kids: not known.  Good with strangers: friendly when meeting people outside the home.  Barks at people when meeting them inside the home.  Calms down and usually stops barking once the introduction is over but will continue to bark at movements and outside noises.  Guarding issues: no resource issues Ever bitten a human: no Ever bitten a dog: no Petal barks at noises she hears outside the home. Petal also runs around the backyard barking, but her “over the top” barking has subsided now Petal is not yet fully housetrained but will use pee pads Crate trained: no When Petal is left on her own, she will bark, settle down then start barking again.  Leash skills: beginners level.  Needs more practice Handling issues: very good about being picked up.  She does cower when approached to be picked up.  Known commands: not yet known - her recent ear infection may be causing hearing impairment or could be a language issue Petal is eating kibble and wet, she has a good appetite but will leave kibble in the bowl.  Petal currently has an ear infection that will take about a month to heal.  Personality, likes/dislikes: she likes most people, she was very good at the vets.  She does well at the groomers but is fearful of the blow dryer.  Best home scenario: a home where there is a secured fenced yard, (she may look for an escape route if there are any holes in the fence big enough for her to get through). She has not been tested with children.  Petal is a very active, bouncy, vocal girl.  When she relaxes, she likes to sleep on the back of the couch ready to go at the first sign of fun.   Petal would do best in a moderately active home with people that will continue her housetraining support. She rides well in the car on an empty stomach but did vomit when she travels after a meal. She is crated when she travels and is very quiet. She loves playing fetch    June 19, 2025, 8:21 am
