My story

Cami is being fostered in Story City IA Hello forever humans! My name is Cami and I'm just under 4 years old (DOB 11/22/2021), a toy/mini black tri female Aussie and a resilient puppy mill survivor. You see, I began my life in a place where I would have babies and they would take them from me, and this process continued until they let me go, giving me a second chance. I had a human take me, but unfortunately, he passed away before I learned how to be a real dog, but I'm grateful for the time we had. I'm in what they tell me is a foster home, with humans and a couple of dogs, where I'm learning to thrive.  I was pretty quiet when I first got here; I guess I was trying to figure out what was going on. Once I realized these were great people, some of my little quirks came out. Fast movements scare me and make me bark, and I will run towards the person getting up and follow them, barking and jumping behind them. If they give me the slightest hint of getting up, such as grabbing a cup of coffee or something off the end table, I tell them. My foster mom keeps asking me, what has been so horrible in your short life that makes you do this? As you know, I can’t tell her but I am trying.  :( Let me tell you about my current situation. My foster mom informs me that I am making significant progress and she remains committed to helping me. Occasionally, she sits on the sofa, and I thoroughly enjoy sitting beside her for snuggles. She offers me affection, and I reciprocate by licking her - a mutually beneficial arrangement, indeed. I have become increasingly comfortable, to the extent that I roll over and receive exceptional belly rubs that induce sleep. I LOVE LOVE LOVE those. I share a bed with my foster family and am diligently working to overcome my vocalizing habit. Everyone acknowledges my notable progress and is confident that, in time, I may even forget to be scared. While my foster sisters bark at every noise or visitor, I refrain from doing so. Interestingly, I only bark when my foster mom moves - a behavior I don't understand. Once I have barked, she is free to move about the house without eliciting further barking from me, yet I consistently bark when she sits down and stands up again. Here are a few things about me: *I’m a small toy/mini aussie that weighs around 18 pounds  *I’m learning to walk with a leash and not super happy about that yet but I am getting better everyday *I like all dogs and I would really like to have another dog in my forever home. *kids interest me but that’s it  *I enjoy a fenced in yard  *I’m learning what human touch is and needs to be on my terms *I’ll follow you all around the house  *I’m really pretty chill all day  *I don’t chew anything that isn’t mine  *I’ll wake you each morning to go out and potty  If you believe I would be a good fit for your home, my foster mom would be delighted to provide further details. Fill out an application and let’s get this going.  Cami is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, negative for all tick borne diseases and on monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworm.   Proof of heartworm prevention for any current or previous pets is required to adopt from our organization.  For more information on our adoption process, please visit our website at www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org. NOTE:  All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in.  Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application.  We pride ourselves on matches that work for both the dog and your family.  MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org ##2308426##
