My story

Alita is a 4-year-old large mixed breed who came to ACC as a stray, so her past is a bit of a mystery. Since arriving, she's been showing us her sweet side-a gentle girl who enjoys soft pets, cozy companionship, and the occasional burst of play. Now she's ready to start a new chapter with someone patient and loving by her side.My Ideal HomeAlita would do best in a calm, structured home with adults or older kids who understand that some dogs need time to settle in. She'll thrive with a routine, positive reinforcement, and someone who can give her space when needed. While she may need time to warm up, once she trusts you, she leans into affection and loves to snuggle.Good with Kids?Alita should go to a home without young children. She's shown signs of fearfulness in certain situations and will do best in an environment where everyone understands how to read her signals and move at her pace.Good with Other Pets?Alita has had mixed reactions to other dogs. While she's been playful and social in some off-leash interactions, she has also barked and shown barrier frustration when crated or leashed. Because of this, we recommend avoiding dog parks and managing introductions carefully with any potential dog siblings.Leash MannersAlita walks well on a leash and generally keeps a loose lead, though she can become reactive when seeing other dogs. A front-clip harness and continued reward-based training will help her stay focused and calm during walks.Overall HealthAlita is spayed and has has no known health concerns.Behavior DeterminationAlita is a Level 2 dog. She can be fearful in certain situations and has shown some defensive behaviors, such as growling when uncomfortable. She also shows signs of kennel stress and anxiety, including panting and whining. Her new family should be prepared to work with her slowly, using only positive, force-free methods to help her feel secure. She may need help managing on-leash reactivity and anxiety, and we're happy to provide training resources.Other / Fun FactsAlita loves treats, enjoys being pet once she's comfortable, and has a soft spot for cozy companionship. She's curious and affectionate, especially once she knows you're someone she can trust. Give her the time and space she needs to feel safe, and you'll be rewarded with a devoted, loving friend. If you're the kind of person who enjoys earning a dog's trust and watching them blossom, Alita is waiting to meet you. What my friends at ACC say about me:My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet!I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.I love getting pets and - you guessed it - snuggles! Primary Color: Tan Secondary Color: Brown Weight: 60 Age: 4yrs 1mths 3wks

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Alita, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
