Location: Marion, OH Food: Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein Medical: Athena has a condition commonly known as "dry eye," which requires lifelong daily eye drops to keep her comfortable and her remaining eye healthy. She will also need occasional check-ins with a veterinary ophthalmologist to monitor her condition. She is currently under the care of the Animal Eye Institute, but her care provider may change depending on the location of her adoptive family. Bio: Athena is a bulldog in every sense of the word: strong-willed, full of personality, and unapologetically herself. She’ll test you at first, but once you’ve earned her trust, she’ll be your fiercest, most loyal best friend. Athena’s journey hasn’t always been easy. She was previously returned to the rescue due to medical and behavioral challenges that stemmed from a lack of structure, clear leadership, and a diet that did not do right by her allergies. Since then, she has made incredible progress and proven that with the right environment, she can thrive. Athena is looking for an experienced, bulldog-savvy home with older kids or no kids at all. She does best with a routine, her own space to decompress, and people who understand that bulldogs march to the beat of their own drum. Despite her tough exterior, she adores snuggles, and being with her people. She’s great with other dogs and does well with laid-back cats (even if she might sneak a treat or two from the litter box). She enjoys walks, car rides, and chew toys — and she’s very food motivated, though she does have a severe chicken allergy, so she’ll need to stick to her prescription food. Athena has a lifelong condition commonly known as “dry eye,” which requires daily eye drops and occasional ophthalmology visits. She’s currently under the care of the Animal Eye Institute, though this may change depending on where her adoptive family is located. She also has some trauma associated with vet visits, but with continued training, patience, and compassion, she’s made great strides in learning that the vet isn’t so scary after all. Athena will test your patience at times, but once she knows you respect her boundaries, she’ll give you that same respect tenfold. She’s also taken on the role of house mediator in her foster home — always wanting to keep the peace. If you’re ready to embrace Athena’s quirks, meet her where she’s at, and give her the love and structure she deserves, she’ll reward you with unwavering devotion. Apply today to be her forever!
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Athena, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
