My story

Say hello to Nicko – the affectionate, talkative gentleman who’s ready to steal your heart (and maybe a bite of your dinner). Nicko is an absolute pleasure to have around. He’s a social butterfly who loves being around family, greeting visitors with a happy purr, and never shying away from a good chat. What makes Nicko the happiest? Food, food, and more food! This guy is a true connoisseur when it comes to snacks and meals. You’ll quickly learn that if you’re in the kitchen, he is right there by your side, ready to lend his company (and maybe a few meows of encouragement to share the love). His enthusiasm for treats is irresistible! FIV is a cat-only virus and does not affect people or dogs. FIV+ cats most often live long, healthy, and relatively normal lives with no symptoms at all. FIV is not easily passed between cats. If you are looking to add an FIV+ cat to your family and you currently have cats that are not FIV+ please speak with your vet. Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available cats in the shelter. (Cats in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the cat first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a cat for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. **Holds are not available on Saturdays and during adoption events. -------------------------------------------- All cat adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies vaccine -current distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -FeLV/FIV blood test -microchip implanted & registered to the adopter -treatment of fleas/ticks/ear mites -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days after adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your new pet.
